Thumbs up My first RTW E-tix

Today I receive my first RTW in form of E-TIX instead of paper tickets. :-: Well, it will be pretty challenging when rerouting needs to be done later.
My E-tix is issued by SQ. The airlines involved are SQ, LH, and UA. According to SQ, the E-tix is only capable of containing 16 segments total. More than 16 segments, including open-jaw, paper tickets are necessary.

By rights, it should be easier than paper. All participating carriers can see the E-TKT and providing there is no restriction other than the "valid Star carriers" in the endorsement, any of them can exchange and reissue if need be, as that's part of the interline ETKT agreement. Most times, it should be able to done on the phone without venturing into an office. Then again, you're likely to run into the usual Star employee apathy - try anything to get you to go somewhere else for reisse.

Iiinteresting. I wonder if that's why mine was all paper as well.

Are you going to share your itin with us all?

Based on my recent ticket (1 month ago), if SQ, LH and UA are now able to do it, then US is the oddball. That's the only additional airline I had and mine was paper (for less than 16 segments). t1nt1n, that could be your issue as well (don't remember how many segments you had).

16 but I had open jaw; arriving in HSV and departing from BHM.

So no confirmation there.

You have 16 plus one openjaw, thus for total 17. It should be paper tix, especially you have US in your itinerary.

To be fair, I will tell you my routing. No PPS sectors maximization. Just going from point A to point B...

BKK
XSIN SQ
LHR SQ
MUC LH
XSFO LH
YVR UA
XSFO UA
JFK UA
SFO UA
LAX UA
NRT SQ
SIN SQ
MEL SQ
SYD UA
XSIN SQ
BKK SQ

Actually, I want to do SIN-XSYD-MEL-SYD-XSIN-BKK, but the mileage total is slightly over.

I did a double-take when I saw the above. Had to load up the MEL-SYD segment and check whether it really was a UA flight.

Interesting that they have that. I suppose the flight probably continues on to LAX or SFO.

I take it this is an F2?

Actually, two more questions:

1. Up above you mentioned re-routing would be "interesting" since this is an e-ticket. Shouldn't it be easier?

2. You have people call up their TA (or is it the airline?) and re-enter their FF# to make sure new status shows up. How about with a paper ticket? I'll be hitting 1P with UA (not counting bonuses, I'll be around 20k short of 1K ) and QPP01 with SQ by near the end of the trip and it's this last status that I really want to use while I'm transitting in SIN ...

(Sorry, didn't mean to hijack your thread. )

The UA flight (mentioned fairly often) is a tag on the LAX/SFO-SYD service, as you surmised. There are no traffic rights granted on the segment in exclusivity, but it IS OK for the RTW (though you sometimes have to correct an agent on this).

Rerouting *should* be easier, I would think, but if they get confused they don't have any paper to stare at. I'd think the potential for something to get screwed up might be higher. I'd certainly always ask for a new printout/email of the itinerary and check it before walking away/hanging up. Changing dates would be a snap, just as it was with the paper ticket.

On United, supposedly status no longer has to be re-entered as they have upgraded their computer system. And it's usually the airline that does it. You can always just have it confirmed when you check in for a flight (or print out the new online record as well).

It is interesting because at the moment not all *A carriers are E-tix capable. If I throw in a sector on TG (for example), I will not be able to get E-tix. Then what if I redo the routing in the middle of the trip? Would it be as easy as paper tix to deal with? I am assuming if once I exchange this E-tix to paper tix because of TG in my itinerary, the next rerouting will still be on paper tix, even if the rest of the segments are on SQ only for example.

When you reach higher status of UA MP than when you book the flights originally, your new status will not be reflected in your booking, unless you call UA to reenter your MP#. But on SQ, when you qualify for PPS, the PNR will get updated right away showing your new QPP status.

t1nt1n, you said F2? I guess you did not plug my routings in the great circle map...

You cannot exchange an electronic ticket into a paper ticket as the reissuing office has no documents on file to process through as the exchanged ticket. (You can however, exchange a paper ticket for a E-Ticket).
In your scenario above, you would more than likely need either your travel agent or one of the carriers that does E-Ticket with the carrier concerned to do the reissue for you.
This is why it's best (only at the moment) to get a RTW E-Ticket issued on the paper of one of the carriers that is E-Ticketing with all partners.

The itinerary MUC-SFO-YVR-SFO-LAX-NRT-SIN-MEL-SYD is appeared in UA "My Itineraries" page; as well as the E-tix info, eventhough the FF# appeared is for SQ. The SFO-JFK-SFO was booked in different PNR, because of SQ systems did not show any availabiliy in A for those routing, and the gent had to book to UA directly.

I've had 2 or 3 CRWSTAR1s issued as paper tickets on LH/SQ/UA and then reissued as e-tickets when I made a routing change and only LH/UA remained. I had no trouble with it at all. It seemed to be much easier than reissuing a new paper ticket.

Eeeep. I guess I'll just call them up to be sure. With either UA or SQ, if for some reason they don't show up, can check-in agents see this?

Sorry, I'm being lazy. I was asking if this was an FRWSTAR2?

*looks at the great mapper*

F3?

Why did you ticket so early btw if you think there were going to be changes still?

Would you mind to check your originals? I believe you have more than 16 segments right? Thus, paper tix.

Hmm the tix is valid for one-year. With the bless from Allah, I only am sure 99% of the time about my routings.
