Is this RTW allowed?

Am trying to plan a RTW going to SCL and the new 345 flights on SQ. The itinerary could be: MAD-SCL-YYZ-EWR-SIN-MAD
Total: 28939 mi (according to Great Circle Mapper)

If EWR-SIN is classified as a Trans-Pacific, then it should be OK, no? Thanks.

EWR-SIN is trans-Pacific so it should be OK as long as Star agrees with your mileage count and it doesn't creep over 29,000.

EWR-SIN is indeed trans-Pacific, but there are no *A flights from MAD-SCL or SIN-MAD. The shortest connection points appear to be in Rio and Frankfurt respectively, which brings your mileage total over 29k.

It may be worth spending some time on the *A RTWMC tool which checks routes, stopovers and mileage as you select where you want to go.

Thanks for all the tips.

I checked with the *A RTWMC tool and indeed this is a valid itinerary ... but at 29282 miles after taking into account MAD-GRU-SCL and SIN-BKK-MAD (SQ no longer flies SIN-MAD).

To get below the 29000 threshold, is it permitted to do an open jaw between YYZ and EWR? I tried this on the *A RTWMC, and it still came out as 29282!

Any surface segments must be included in the mileage count, hence the same mileage coming up for you.
It may be worth a quick visit to TAP's website and see where they fly to in Sth Am from LIS. Can only be a matter of days before they are officially permitted as part of the RTW's.

The only other option I can think of is to return to BCN as your end point. A lot less miles coming from Asia to get there than over to MAD. Remains to be seen if the seperate fare you need to buy from BCN-MAD comes in under the cost between the STAR1 and STAR2 fare if you stay over the 29,000 limit.
Routing SIN - VIE - BCN will get you under the 29K. I get 28,940 miles.

How about departing from (and arriving back) FRA instead? I imagine it wouldnt be too expensive to buy a separate ticket MAD-FRA-MAD.

Remember that SQ levy a US$500 surcharge for using SIN-EWR vv on a *A RTW ticket.

Ouch! I'd have to rethink this a little.

I had a look at the TAP website but they don't fly to SCL.
Ending at BCN is a great suggestion - 28940 miles - and it is also not too difficult to get cheap-ish flights between BCN and MAD. MAD-FRA would be more difficult although LAN-Chile's 4x-weekly flights is a good option.

Thanks for all the useful suggestions!

Unless I am looking at outdated fares/rules, the surcharge for the non-stop between SIN and either EWR or LAX is US$150 on a business class RTW or US$100 on an economy class RTW. (No surcharge if taking either flight on a FRWSTAR, or if sitting in E+ on a CRWSTAR.)

It's US$150 for SIN-LAX and US$500 for SIN-EWR, unless that's changed very recently.

IIRC the surcharge went up a few months ago, so possibly wideman is looking at old rules.

Just checked as I am doing EWR-SIN on a CRTWSTAR2 and it's still US$500 for EWR (and US$150 for LAX) as it was when introduced in September last year. TG start BKK-JFK non-stop with A345's shortly and I doubt they'll put a surcharge on for that.
