Question Baggage Allowance *RTW

Hi!

I just got my *RTW ticket, going from BNE to europe via DXB, and over to US and back to SYD. In the last column of all segments says PC. Does it mean I'm allowed 2 pieces of 32 kg on all segments around the world? And do I get to bring an extra piece scince I'm *G? Or is it the regular 20kg (40kg) on the segments that does not include travelling to the US? I have always had tickets that only allowed 20kg from SYD to Europe before, so this was a little surprise. Always good to be able to bring what you need... Thank you for your help

Karl

You get 2pcs plus 1 extra due to your *G for your entire RTW, so 96kgs in total! ^

Bear in mind that many places (SIN, HKG, LHR, AUSTRALIA) are starting to implement a maximum of 32kgs per piece of baggage. So pack accrodingly.

Hi again!

I have spoken to SIA about this 2 times now. The first time they said that I'm allowed 2 pieces of 32 kilo plus an extra 20 kilo because of the *G status. Still only 2 pieces with another 20 kilo. I have no idea how I can bring only 2 pieces of 32 kilo and an additional 20 kilo in those 2 pieces though... Is 2 pieces by the piece system and the third one by weight? The second time I rang up to clearify, they said only 2 pieces all the way. *G does not have any baggage benefit. I do not think I'll get any more answers from colling them another time... I have checked the KrisFlyer page, it says 20 kilo or 1 piece extra. Any idea on how I can present this when I check in? (Sometimes I feel that the pasengers know more about this than the airline staff itself...) I pressume that Qantas in doing check in in Australia for SQ? I really need all kg I can get, so thanks for your help

Previous posters are absolutely correct in saying that the RTW baggage allowance is 2 PC * 32 kg + 1 extra piece for being a *G.

You can print the following out as a reference for the *G benefits: http://www.staralliance.com/star_all...nt/status.html

As per standard IATA rules, the piece (and not weight) system applies for the entire itinerary when such an itinerary includes at least one flight segment to/from an airport in North/South America.

SQ sound like they are confusing the extra *G benefits under the weight concept, not the piece concept. (You get an extra 20k under the weight system as a *G).
You 100% deadset positively can have 3 pieces @ 32kg max weight per piece as a *G on a RTW. Maximum linear measure of 158cm (LxWxD).
I believe some carriers are trying to get a max weight of 23kg per piece for Y cabin pax under the piece system, but it's still 32kg at the moment. Ask for a supervisor if they still give you grief over it.
Another option if you need even more luggage is to call Luggage Link or similar in every Oz capital city. Specialise in forwarding unaccompanied baggage at very decent rates.

I can also confirm that the piece system (ie, 32kg x 2, plus 32 x 1 for *G) applies for the whole RTW itinerary.

If an agent gives you grief, another point of reference is the fare rules for the RWSTAR tariff, which explicitly states that "PIECE SYSTEM SHALL APPLY FOR THE WHOLE JOURNEY" somewhere in the fare rules. You can ask the agent to refer to the fare rule if s/he refuses to allow you the 3 pieces even after checking your ticket (which already says 2PC).

Thank you very much for your replies and help. I sent an email to SIA as well, jsut to confirm what the rules really are, and they wrote me this reply:

Dear Karl

Thank you for your enquiry.

Apologies for the conflicting advise, as a Gold Star Alliance member you are allowed an extra piece of max weight 32kgs(baggage handlers won't carry more). Your free baggage allowance total is therefore 3 pieces plus 7kgs for carry-on luggage.

Kindest regards
Australian Reservations
Customer Service Centre 131011

Guess I'll print this off and bring to the airport...

I thought you got an additional piece of handluggage too - or are you allowed 2 pieces of 7kgs in total (together)?

That's a programme benefit rather than mandated *G benefit, although most (all?) *A FFPs offer extra carry-on allowance to *Gs (in line with biz/first carry-on allowance) IIRC.

I think paid C gets 3 pieces of luggage of 32 kg so do I get an extra one on top of that as a *A Gold? i.e. 3+1 = 4 pieces?

Itinery is AKL-HNL(Stopover)-YVR-YOW.

Thanks, Mary

Not usually. Some carriers do allow their own elites additional allowance on top of what they would get from class of travel, but for most it is the higher of the allowance as *G or allowance from class of travel. In your case I am pretty sure it is only 3 pieces.
