Basic Questions about Status / Point Transference

Sorry, I tried the stickies here and the FAQs on the Star Alliance page and I didn't exactly get the answer to this basic question...

I have Silver status with UA. If I am buying tickets directly from SAS or TK, does that in any way affect my UA premier status? I have not signed up for the individual programs of the other two airlines.

You can have your MileagePlus number put on your TK or SAS reservation. You'll get *A silver benefits (which don't amount to much) and earn RDM, PQS and PDM. However, unless the ticket is issued by UA, you won't get PQD.

WDYM by RDM, PQS, PDM and PQD? Several non-UAFFs don't have the SFI!

RDM = ReDeemable Miles. These are the miles you use for awards.
PQS, PQM, and PQD are Premier Qualifying Segments, Miles, and Dollars. These are what you need to achieve status.

What's SFI?
