Getting Round SIA PPS Club by using another program
Hi Everyone,
As you may know SIA have two seperate programs, Krisflyer and PPS - once you reach Gold on Krisflyer (same as Star Al Gold) you can't go any further (e.g Platinum on most other programs) unless you buy business or first tickerts (PPS Club).
I am about to get the gold class (and you can also get this every year by sepnding on a credit card in any case), but I'm a bit peeved my repeat custom will not be rewarded from here.
So... I was thinking - once I get the gold status I could join another program (probably should have thought on this before and I'd already be a long way towards it) and begin to escalate in their tier system:
- I will still book on Singapore Airlines as its the most conveient and offers the best routes out of SG
- I just accrue those miles to the new program
- Once I hit gold I will get all the SG benefits anyway as its star alliance so I can let that go or keep it by spending on the card
- I'll still be able to redeem the points on SG flights as its Star Alliance.
The potential downsides I can see are:
- Some SG flights might not fully accrue to the other airlines but most are 3-4 hours plus and are not the cheapest fare class
- It may be harder to redeem points on SG flights from another program.
But at least I'll be able to enjoy platinum benefits somwhere..
Any thoughts much appreciated.

f you like to fly Business with award tickets, then you will find that SQ generally makes few to none Business class awards available to star alliance partners.
Also check how many points you will earn flying the fares you normally buy on your new FF program

if you are based in SIN and fly SQ most of the time then splitting your miles makes no sense. *G is the highest you get anyway, SQ will not give you anything more. OZ gives you status for more years with one qualification. (Just in case you can't achieve 15k spend with your SQ credit card each year)

I don't understand why you would want to run two *A programmes in parallel. Once you hit SQ*G, what would be the benefit in having xx*G? And I can't think of too many 'platinum' benefits of other airlines that are valuable to you flying out of SIN. Finally, how does this 'get around' PPS?

I agree don't see much point in splitting miles between two different *A programs . . . that's a recipe for losing orphan miles due to expiration.
If you wanted to start accruing to CX, for example, that would be a different question. There you would at least be accessing different program benefits (including particularly OW lounge access).

Yeah, understand your dislike of SQ not allowing any further benefit without flying business/first. If you're only flying SQ then you pretty much have to stick with it. If you were talking any other Star Alliance airline in the world it might be a different story... but SQ only releases premium class award seats to Kris Flyer in general.
How much do you actually fly and what types of fare classes? Also do you have a typical route or is it all over the place? If it's always cheapest economy then you won't get much love from other programs in Asia, even if you switch your loyalty. Depending on your needed routes, maybe it's worth looking at CX, maybe it's not.
I didn't realize that you only have to spend 15k a year on a SQ based credit card to hold Kris Flyer Gold, that's very cheap and an easy way to keep status while looking for greener pastures.
I'd be looking outside of Star Alliance as Kacee mentions if that's the direction you want to head. It doesn't benefit you at all to have 2 different *G memberships. If you went Skyteam then you could possibly start flying GA more, or if you want OneWorld then obviously CX, but OneWorld programs in general are extremely stingy about credit on low economy fare classes. I believe AsiaMiles credits at 1:1 regardless of fare, but you would not have that same benefit flying other OW airlines.
