I going to fly from LHR to PPT on AirNewZealand (I need to combine a deep-discounted fare with a stopover in LAX, I usually go there on AZ/AF/TN), so I'm going to join StarAlliance, betraying SkyTeam.
My question is: Is there any substantial difference in subscribing through one airline or another? If so, which one would you suggest me?
Any reply would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Hi there and welcome to *A.
Which programme you join really does depend on how you plan to travel in the future rather more than on a one off journey. That said, if you are based in Europe, you probably can't go wrong with LH M&M.

It's sure LH, would be the best choice (I could enrol via AirOne -I'm italian-) but I was really interested in any "status, mile subscription bonus, awards, etc" existing differences...I could subscribe via NZ and get all *A's benefits as well.
I will continue giving my preference to SkyTeam, but for an one off journey I would get the maximum...
