I have a paper Star Award issued by UAL IAD-ORD-BKK-SGN and return from Hanoi ( in coach). When the ticket was originally issued in May, there were no business class award seats available- I was encouraged to call back periodically to check. I have done so, and not until today were seats available- However, I am leaving this weekend and I am told that I cannot rebook without mailing my paper ticket in to MP and waiting for the miles to repost before I can book a business class seat- I do not have enough rsidual miles to cover 2 business class seats while I have the paper tickets in hand and those miles deducted from my MP account.

I had not been told this rul- even when I called yesterday I was told to call back today and check if there were seats available.

Any advice re how to get this to work?

I would attempt to speak with a Supervisor at UA Int'l Award reservations, 1 888 674 4680.

It sounds as though you need to exchange two Y calss award tickets at 60,000 miles each for two C class award tickets at 90,000 miles each, and that you have the extra 60,000 miles available to cover the total increased cost.

I would ask for help, assistance and a favor. Tell them that you can go to IAD to exchange/re-issue the paper tickets, while removing the additional 60,000 miles. It is probably a stretch to assume that they can or will do this but it seems like the only alternative at this late date?

I reached a supervisor before I read your post and it went just as you described. An extraordinarily helpful man walked through the procedures, made calls to IAD to ensure that the capability would be there- with lots of annotations in the record.
