Lounge access

I recently came across a CIC reference on RESIII (AC) which said, in essence, that if you arrive on a Star flight and your onward connection is non-Star because no Star airline serves the route, then you are eligible to use the Star Alliance lounges before the non-Star airline departure as Star Gold.

Is this news? I can get the exact quote again if people want it.

Yes the full CIC with reference number would be great to have.

Stargold - please let us have that. Would be extremely helpful when faced with recalcitrant lounge guards.

I think the operative here is that there is no STAR carrier flight to the onward destination. Useful to know, but try and convince a SQ lounge attendant.

Glad to see you're taking some initiative and plumbing the depths of the Reservac system, Stargold. Trust the job at AC is going well.

Eligible customers making connections:

Eligible Star Alliance customers travelling internationally (Transat, Transpac, Intercontinental) on a Star Alliance flight will have access to Star Alliance lounges at point of origin and all connection points provided segment to be flown is on a Star Alliance carrier. Additionally, Star Alliance Gold members can access Star Alliance lounges when connecting to a Non-Star irline if a Star carrier does not provide air transportation to the customer's next destination.

Great rule if any of the ice maiden door keepers can ever be convinced it is correct.

Why on earth would they offer this I wonder? We fly next month from USA to Santiago Chile on United and connect on Lan Chile to Easter Island same day. Wonder why we would gain access to a Star lounge in that instance when a OW carrier has the business? Strange. As it happens we are in pointy end on Lan Chile, but if we were not this rule would be a life saver.

Peter_D: a CIC is a reference point for various information that employees can refer to. So, if you are ever stopped by an AC lounge attendant trying to enter the Maple Leaf Lounge when connecting to a destination not served by Star, you can point them to this particular CIC reference, and it will be on their computers for them to see themselves.

Berki: RESIII is the CRS that AC currently uses.

I think the point of this rule is where there is no Star coverage to your chosen destination. Therefore, they're recognizing the fact that you're on a competitor airline because Star doesn't fly there and allowing you to use the lounge.
