would not be a very efficient routing, but, up to my knowledge: YES
backtracking within a continent is legal and there is no problem touching the same airport twice

i suggest you to also check kempisī thread from today with the full rule table for the star rtw. if you want to go on a star rtw there is no way around reading this at least three times -- you will get a lot of BS info about RTWs from travel agencies and airline hotlines so it is good to be prepared.

Hi,

That's actually the end of the routing. It's MEL-SIN-LHR-LAX-JFK-MEL. The ticket is for my brother, and he has to be in LA before returning 'home' to NY.

His options for RTW are Starlite $2269 AUD or OW global explorer $2299 AUD for 26000 miles. This would mean he'd have to buy another ticket out to LAX fron NY.

The 29000 mile lever for Star is $2889 AUD. For OW it's $2599 AUD (both the 29000 global explorer, or 4 continent)

He's premier with UA and would rather travel with Star.

any ideas?
thanks
