Combining miles??
Sorry to be particularly slow but I have just "discovered" Star Alliance and reading their web page it seems to imply that I can use miles gained on one member airline's FF plan to gain awards on another member airline's FF plan. Is that correct - it sounds too good to be true. Can they be combined as with AA/USAir. If the answer to the last question is yes, meet one very happy frequent flyer!

no combining of miles/points from different ff-prgrams - but you can use miles from one program to get award tickets on another StarAlliance-member. Upgrade-awards only between LH (probably includes all 3 airlines from tha Autrian Airline Group) and UA.

You may be able to transfer them through Hilton or Starwood, not to LH M&M but for example to UA MP and vice versa. I have not done this myself, so maybe someone more experienced can help.

AA miles are certainly out of the picture because they are
1. the evil enemy of UA
2. they belong to 1W
US Air looks better, if the "merger" goes through I think UA has stated that it will merge USair's program into mileage plus.

Yes, in fact, as far as I know...
You cannot redeem upgrades on other star carriers...
AC members can't even upgrade on AC...

It's different for UA/LH... (same bed?
)
I would be jumping in joy if I was able to upgrade on ANA using AC miles... the generocity of AC combined with upgrades on ANA will be so nice... but life is fair which means I won't be able to do that (because I got Elite so easily... fair I guess
)

So what happened to seamless travel....?
Maybe the issue of using miles for other carriers will be one good thing of combining all fflyer programs.... (of course, if they refrain from devaluing the currency too much).
