Crazy, but once in a life time
I am planning a round the world trip on my miles in feb 2014
I Have enough United and a 100.000 Silver Kris miles
Basic I would like to do first on the A380 Singapore Airlines from Singapore to LA or the other way around from the silver Kris. Starting is Amsterdam or Brussels. The other parts Business or first. So I see Air China, EVA now, Thai, Turkisch Airways, SAS...all airlines I do not know.
So curious to what people like or not like in Business on these airlines..good seating, avoid aircraft types!
Thanks

Can I suggest you take a look in the Trip Reports forum ... there are multiple accounts of premium class travel on pretty much every airline flying today.
Also this thread and this one and this one and here and here.
There are other threads ...

Plus there is nothing crazy about a RTW, at least not amongst this community and even less so when travelling in premium cabins

My bad, some of the segments were purchased individually, just checked on UA.com and the *A RTW portion is:
EWR-SIN-HKG-PEK-PVG-BKK-DPS-SIN-BKK-BOM-JNB-CPT, VFA-JNB-EZE-GIG-GRU-EWR
...I think that's the same as I mentioned in the previous post. There's also a detour to FNJ from PEK on a side ticket, and a detour from CPT to Maun then the Okavango Delta before getting to VFA and resuming the RTW. That's 16 segments and an open jaw listed above.

I also want to do such a RTW someday. My plan is to collect enough miles for 1 ticket and pay for another one for my wife.
If you collect miles in one *A FFP, can you buy a RTW ticket in another one within *A? E.g. If I collect enough miles on Aegean, can I buy a RTW ticket on e.g. United?

First, the rules for each are totally different ( each FF plan has different rules for
rewards, but generally limited to fewer stops and segments than a revenue RTW); and the fare classes are different, meaning you will seldom find
availability on the same flights.

I am looking at booking an around the world in Business starting in New York with the main stops being CDG, LHR, Frankfurt, BKK, SIN, HKG, ICN.
I am debating on which ocean to cross first...potentially going over the Atlantic first so that on the way back I could swing by SFO and see my family.
The big draw in for this is that I would get to be on an A380 (Thai) & potentially OZ across the Pacific.
Look forward to this page as a resource and posting anything I happen to finalize and do or come across.

You do know that starting your RTW in ICN is considerable cheaper than it is in NYC. Using some miles to get there might save you money, and with a stopover in SFO you could even see your family on both directions :-).
Or look at buying some US Airways miles now the promo is running and make it a US-EU-ICN trip with a stopover (and maybe some additional low cost tickets to the other destinations). Your RTW includes only major airports so an RTW might not be the best deal, unless you need the flexibility it provides. Or even combine the two :-).
