I wasnt sure where to post this.
I'm confused as to how to use the alliance network as all our flying has been with Air NZ to date. I have AirNZ Gold status, my partner has silver.
We've got quite a few APD and we both have a recognition upgrade available on Air NZ. If say we flew to Singapore on Singapore Airlines, can we use RU's. Or can we use our APD to get upgrades.
also, if we reg fly Air NZ can we credit our points to another airline and if so how does that work. Perhaps someone can direct me to a specific post as I just cant seem to find what I"m looking for.

About your second query, you can of course earn points/miles on other airlines programs when flying NZ. Simply enter the frequent flyer number of your desired program into your booking. However, you will need to do research first as not all fare classes earn points in other programs. For example many domestic NZ fare classes do not earn points anywhere other than in NZ's own program. See the stickys at the top of this forum for more info on selecting a program to join

Recoginition Upgrades under Airpoints programme can only be used on NZ services. You can use your APD to upgrade your SQ flights under the SAUA (Star Alliance Upgrade Award) but you will need Y or B class to be eligible. Also you would find the value in doing so rather poor. The value is particularly poor with Airpoints in that the APD required to upgrade are nearly the same as redeeming for a reward Business ticket outright.
