Status Matching
I have Gold Medallion status on DL.
I'm flying to Madrid this Sept on US, CO and UNITED. I see that United has a status matching program. Which of these three carriers would be the best to apply for the highest reward status match with? Hoping to get bumped up a class on the EWR -> MAD leg of the trip.
Thanks

My girlfriend and I are planning a trip with an open itinerary around the eastern hemisphere. I'm trying to gain status to make our flying easier and skip the bag fees. But, ya, mostly, I'd love to fly TATL without my knees touching anything

If you want to fly C/J across the pond "without your knees touching anything", then you should open your wallet or pony up the requisite number of air miles for an award ticket.

To be clear, i have heard of people getting upgraded when the back is oversold, and obviously, the people with highest status will be the ones to get it,but it's so exceedingly rare that you can't remotely say it's a benefit of status.
People without any membership in the FF program at all have sweet talked a counter or gate agent into upgrades too, probably about the same success rate.
