Perfect bday setup?

Hi everyone,

Join the FT forum not too long ago and already i learned so much from members post/advice that i am well over my head. I am planning a trip to India this november as a birthday surprise for my friend, have enough miles for a First class award but a little overwhelmed trying to figure out the best route to maximized the award. We'll be leaving on thanksgiving day from BOS to DEL stay there for 3 weeks then from DEL to DXB for another week before head back to the state.

Please share your thoughts and expertise and help this rookie out. BTW, this will be our 1st F class experience

Thanks in advance!

First thing, when planning an award trip you can never say 'We'll be leaving on Thanksgiving Day' until after your flight is booked and ticketed. Getting seats on the exact day you want is oftentimes difficult.

You might tell us which Frequent Flyer Programme (FFP) you're a member of. That will help focus the advice.

cheers,

Henry

I'm pretty sure that US only permits a stopover at a hub so using them for the desired routing seems to not be possible. There is a very good thread in the US forum detailing *A partner redemptions. I'd check that out for more details there.

I'm not certain on DL's rules but I'm guessing you would have to route via NBO or Europe on a partner to get between DEL and DXB, assuming they permit such. Of course, DL SkyMiles cannot be redeemed for F seats so you are going to have to deal with that limitation.

You might do better to book an open jaw and fly yourself between DEL and DXB on a separate ticket.
