If you're making a reference to droppings and Skyteam, then I agree.

Any updates on the timing of the proposed merger? Is there a shareholder vote scheduled, or any announcements from the regulatory parties who may need to approve re any antitrust considerations?

It will take many months to get regulator approval - think how many countries are involved (at a minimum Chile, Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Ecuador, Argentina, plus EU and US).

Argentina gets to approve twice?

I flew LAN Peru a few years back. Though they for whatever reason could not find my reservation, the plane ride itself was very good.
I hope they join *A.

Perhaps he included Argentina twice to make up for forgetting Paraguay ( due to TAMs subsidiary PZ )

LAN's planned purchase of Brazils TAM to form the worlds second-biggest carrier by market value has been approved by Chiles antitrust tribunal with several conditions.

Brazilian approval is still required.

Lan Airlines SA (LAN)s planned purchase of Brazils Tam SA (TAMM4) to form the worlds second-biggest carrier by market value was approved by Chiles antitrust tribunal with several conditions.
Tribunal de Defensa de la Libre Competencia, or TDLC as the court is known, gave final Chilean clearance for the transaction in a split vote, according to a statement sent by e-mail today. Conditions include Lan and Tam opening up their frequent flyer program to other airlines, exiting one of their global alliances and capping Santiago-Sao Paulo fares until they exchange four daily slots in Sao Paulos Guarulhos airport with other carriers. The tie-up still requires Brazilian approval.
Interestingly, the Chilean approval conditions basically forces LATAM to *O.

Another scenario that we may be looking on is the formation of the fourth Airline alliance apart from *A, ST, OW.

This seems highly unlikely given the current markets and the very small number of carriers that are otherwise unaffiliated.

How complete is/was TAM's integration into *A?

If I sign up with TAM today and throw all my AC, UA, US etc. flights at it, could I get full TAM credit and elite status? Their status requirements appear very low, if *A flights count for TAM status I could have a Blue card in a month and a Red card in March 2012 (based on January-March flights).

If the merging with the LAN program happens later in 2012, I would then have an extra pile of OW points and OW Sapphire status with LATAM?

However, their US English language website shows a blank space in the airline partners category, despite *A membership.

Best I can tell they are fully integrated but they don't bother to update their website very often.

I thought Paraguay was part of brazil!

TAM black and Vermelhos were sent a letter assuring us the FF issue was open and. Asking our views on whether we were happy with *A and views on a shift. I responded that I would not mind top tier OW... It confers better privileges than *Gold IMO .... But would also be happy with Star.

This article even indicates that there is still a way for LATAM to join *A which is for *A to get out of the commitment with Avianca-Taca. First time I have heard this and I don't believe LH can pull it off. Things could even backfire if they tick Avianca-Taca off and they could end up with no South American presence. Thoughts?
