Upgrade on partner airlines?

I am CO Platinum and have flown only Co for 10+ years. If I fly United or US Air now that we are all Star Alliance, can I expect elite boarding and complimentary upgrades? Thank you very much.

Welcome to FlyerTalk!

You should get elite boarding (not the red carpet on UA but with the other elites after the red carpet) and 3x70# checked bags. On US you can also get some better seats, including exit rows, by calling and requesting them.

You are not entitled to F on either carrier nor E+ on UA for free. Reciprocity with UA, including E+ access, is coming later this year, but it is going to be a while yet.

Will star alliance silver on another carrier result in an upgrade to E+ on United? If it's possible, will I need to ask for it, or will it be automatic?

Nope. There is no *A benefit into E+.

CO and UA are expected to have a bilateral agreement later this year but nothing other than that.

Yes.

In theory you have some kind of prio in case or irregs and maybe some dedicated checkin counters, but in practice, the free bags on domestic usa flights is the only benefit for *S.

E+ is United's Economy Plus. It's up to five inches of extra legroom toward the front of all the Economy cabins, but no additional benefits.
