I've been finding that the Costco discount codes have provided some of the cheapest rates for Budget and Alamo:
Budget BCD: W852802
Alamo Contract ID: 7014627
You should be able to combine these with coupon codes (especially for Budget) found on southwest.com to get extra bonus points.

2. This is a false statement.
Here's a Budget coupon code that you can most certainly use with the BCD code I mentioned that gets you up to 2,400 RR points: MUAZ017 (taken from Southwest's site).

This is another good code to try for Budget: X474200 (Travelocity).
It doesn't provide the lowest prices on all car classes, but they usually heavily discount one or two types of cars.
Again, you can use this code in combination with the coupon code above to get up to 2,400 RR points.

sorry, I didn't know that about Budget, I have never used them. You don't get the bonus points from Alamo though, unless you use WN corp id, Costco ID will not work. At least I have never found an Alamo coupon that gives bonus points, just $ off or upgrades.

From "car offers" on Southwest.com
If you combine this with one of the coupons on the National website right now (free weekend day or $25 off weekend rental) you can earn back nearly the same value in points as the cost of the rental itself.
This weekend I've got a 3-day midsize reservation for $38 all-inclusive. Should be some of the easiest 2,400 RR points I've ever earned.
Save up to 25% and earn 2,400 points per rental with National Car Rental®.
Offer valid on rentals of a midsize car or above for three days or more. Valid at participating National locations in the U.S. and Canada through May 17, 2015.
To take advantage of this offer, simply book your reservation through this page. Contract ID 5030924 will be automatically applied to your reservation. Be sure to provide your Rapid Rewards account number at the time of booking or rental to receive your points.

Has anyone come across anything other than the deal advertised on Southwest.com? I have a My Avis card through my employer but as an end user we certainly do not get the same discount as they are one of the highest priced rentals for my trip. The current Southwest promo gave me a pretty fair price on Alamo for either a midsize SUV or pickup truck (which either works for me as I will have 4 adults), but I didn't know if there were any better deals around. I tried National but they weren't too impressive even with Emerald club access.

Source is an insert in my Chase bill. 2 day minimum, 1,200 points per rental and a 5% or greater discount though 5/17/15.
In practice on a 2 day rental I got a discount better than Alamo Insider's and 1,800 points in separate postings of 600 and 1,200. $25 in points for a <$50 rental is a deal to me. ^

I think I get an email a week or two out on almost every reservation that has some type of discount offer. I just had a Full size TPA>MCO for 7 days thru Budget for $209 all in.
I had another rental in Jan thru AVIS that I also used the SW Discount. That car was also a full size $154 all in for 5 days, MCO>FLL.
