True, but
1. You could fly BDL-FLL or BDL-MCO on Southwest and then take one of the other low-fare carriers to PR.
2. I hardly think BDL-SJU is a route that is so underserved that it calls out for Southwest to take it on, especially when Southwest doesn't even fly to SJU at present.

ATA did fly to SJU-- I flew them. However, my hunch is that ATA aircraft, and more importantly, slots, are more valuable to WN at LGA/DCA etc. I'm not 100% sure why they still do West-->HNL as it may not have the highest of yields, although their through fares on connections (think TUL-OGG) are not exactly the cheapest of fares, either.
SJU is a different type of market in that the lion's share of demand is from the NE, and the NE to SJU market is pretty well saturated with flights and $100ish one way fares standard, even on CO/AA/DL. Spirit has tapped some of the secondary SJU markets with $.05 type fares, so I can understand WN not jumping into the mix. Other island destinations (except STT/STX/GUM) are international, and that would open up a completely new set of issues for WN-- I'm guessing, issues WN doesn't want to touch or they would have already tapped Canada and/or Mexico by now.
