Getting My Companion Pass

Hello all!

So, I got the SW card that should net me 120k points after $15k spent, which totals the 135k needed for a companion pass. Since the offer came to me late, I only have limited time.

My question- I need all of the points to post this year, right?

So when do I need to have the $15k spent by in order to ensure I get my companion pass.

Get all $15k spent this year, you cut your CP in half, only good for 2024. Complete the spend in early 2024 and you get the CP for 2024 and 2025.

This is rule #1 for this process, don't complete the spend requirement at the end of the year; complete it at the beginning of the year.

There was a 120K business card offer not far back but I BELIEVE it was timed so you had to complete the first part of the spend in 2023 so you could not get 2024/2025 CP on the one card.

  • Earn 60,000 points after spending $3,000 in the first 3 months after account opening.
  • Earn an additional 60,000 points after spending a total of $15,000 in the first 9 months after account opening.

Here is the offer you signed up for, I thought you had to spend the $3k before the end of 2023.

If that's the case you need to send the entire $15K in 2023 to get all 120K to post in the same year.

Yes! The way it is setup, you can't get all 125k point early next year. I'd only get 1 full year, but I'm not complaining. I already have the 60k posted.

My question is if I spend the amount un December, the points probably won't post until January, so won't that split it? Making it so I don't get all 125k in one year?

Do I need to spend 15k before the end of the year or have my points post by then?

Otherwise I'll have to roundup another 60k... (and maybe worth it if I get 2 years of the companion pass.)

Why not? Complete the first $3k spend at very end of DEC or early JAN, and then spend the rest ASAP to get the CP for most of 2024 and all of 2025

Earned points always post 1-2 days after your monthly statement closes. (not due date). So, your earning period is NOT the full month of December.

All companion pass points reset to zero on Jan 1st. (you do not lose your miles/ponts)

I have done CP three times now and always get at least 22 months, often more.

Apply for the 75K personal card now...........if approved wait to finish the spend on the new personal card and the last $15K on your current business card until 2024 and you will get CP for longer.

If you don't get approved for another Southwest card I would complete the spend on your current card ASAP so the other 60K points post in 2023 but don't forget you need 135K total CPQP in 2023.

If you want the additional 60 K points to post in 2023 you have until your December statement closes to spend the additional $15K and the charges have to POST to the card.

If your statement closes late in December be careful as I believe if the points post in 2024 ( even if your statement closed in December 2023 ) they count for 2024.

Don't forget the annual fee does not count towards the spend.

I don't rely on the 10K bonus CPQP the credit card gives me,, if you need the credit card 10K make sure it's already showing in your account for 2023. GL
