Need Help with Southwest Companion Pass

I am trying to get my bonus spends for a Southwest Plus and Southwest Premier card to post in December of 2017. I made an error on going over the $2,000 limit on the Plus so I have the 60,000 Bonus points already in my Rapid Rewards account.

I have reached the $2,000 spend on the Premier, however, the account statement closing date is December 26th. I called Chase to see if they would move up the closing date to give the points time to post to my Rapid Rewards in 2017 after my statement closes. Chase said any changes won’t take effect until the next billing period.

My concern is the 60,000 points on the Premier won’t post until January, 2018 and I won’t have a Companion pass due to the points posting in different calendar years. I know I will only have the Comapnion pass for 2018, if I am Lucky enough to get the points to post in December. Chase wasn’t very helpful and when I mentioned we were trying to get the bonus points in the same calendar year for the companion pass the rep said they would not change the closing date based on the need to get the bonus points. She said it can take 6 to 8 weeks to get the bonus points.

What happens if I close the Southwest Premier card? Will the points then post in December? I don’t need the card.

FYI, tried to get the Southwest Business Premier Card but got shut down on the 5/24 rule. I also tried to get a Business Relations Manager to fax in a business application for the S/W Business card. She told me they do not have a paper application for this card. There was a paper application for 2 other business cards, just not the S/W Business card.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

Closing date of 12/26 should be fine to have you points post in 2017. I would just leave it alone as all you can do is mess things up.

What date did your November statement close on the Premier card and what date did those points post ?

For my November 20, 2017 statement my points posted to my SW account on 11/21

I received 110K points in Jan 2018, the cards were opened in 2017. I received CP and it says it is valid through 12/31/2018. I thought it should been valid through 12/31/2019?

What does it say online IIRC, the physical cards come out annually, but online should show you the correct expiration date. I also think there might have been folks who experienced this with the California promo though I haven't heard about it lately so I assume WN got that sorted.

Does anyone know if Southwest is still granting companion pass based on CC sign up bonus (and spend)? I feel like I read somewhere that they weren't allowing this anymore.

Yes, they are. I just did it with a 50,000 bonus from a Personal card plus the 60,000 bonus from a Business. Within the last week or so.

No.

Except of course if points cost 2 cents and you buy 1000 for $20, you will get CP-qualifying points on the $20.
