I just completed a flight that had a major route change due to weather. Actual track went from PHX towards BHM then northeast towards PHL. Even though the initial track over ELP was correct, I noticed that the new flight tracker kept changing the history trail from what was actually flown to a direct line from origin to destination with a great circle arc thrown in for aesthetic purposes. By the time the airplane arrived it showed that we were somehow near Chicago.

Not looking forward to the new one

Is it still powered by MapQuest?

The map in your link has much more information than the actual map. The actual map is worthless.

The new app is absolutey useless. Yesterday, I ran "Foreflight", a high end iPad moving map app for pilots and the pertaint data wasn't even close.

I've tried the flight tracker once or twice since the change. Don't even open it anymore.

I am still perplexed as to what WN gained with our loss.

Lower (or more likely no) licensing fees to the developer of the new app given the crap that it is.

I noticed on my flights over the weekend that the tracker would randomly report eta's and time to destination that was way way off, sometimes getting longer and longer despite our moving towards the destination. Pretty much useless, really.

I sent them an email and got the "We'll be in touch" canned response. Nothing since then. Back to using my Garmin on flights if I don't want to pay $8 to see what I'm looking at.

Not 100% sure of this, but I think GPSs are not legal to operate in the cabin.

Actually, GPS devices are allowed.

Don't forget that you must be in a window seat and be able to get the antenna near and pointed out the window.
