We skedaddled at 6:30 AM today and are now ensconced at a Comfort Inn in Montgomery. Waze did us right and sent us all the way past Bay St. Louis via Chef/90 rather than staying on I-10, which was a [mess] even at that hour, due to bridge traffic and then an accident somewhere past Slidell. Thank God I decided yesterday to head east rather than west, because my friend who went to Houston left at 5 AM and still hadn’t cleared Lake Charles by 11

I also live close to the river levee (near the Fly) so have to put my faith in it!!! I’m not sure flood zone X means anything anymore, but that’s what I’m clinging to

I was out running an errand and noticed the lines to get gas aren’t long now.

I’d say 90+% of my neighborhood is staying. However, just talked with some friends and it has taken them 12 hours to drive to Houston. Traffic and a couple of “blinding rainstorms“. They left at 4:30 AM this morning.

Wow! One of the local tv channels just showed the TSA lines at MSY. A lot of people trying to fly out and only 2 lines open.

A handful of stubborn relations have stayed behind in Houma. They have generators but it's going to get pretty biblical.

Wow, that’s going to be ground zero on a potential cat 5. Hope they stay safe.

ETA: is one of them named Hank? A friend of a friend posted they are riding it out in Houma. Says currently 30 mph winds there.

Midnight to 7:30 AM, .71” of rain at my house. (Have a digital rain gauge) Power just went out in my neighborhood. Have a gas generator, but can’t use it until after the storm passes. Some of my neighbors have whole house natural gas generators.

edit: power back on at 11:40 AM

At noon, wind gusts up to 61 mph at MSY.

Total rainfall at my home since midnight:
7:30 AM - .71”
Noon - .98”
3:00 PM - 1.81”
6:00 PM - 4.41”

122,000+ power outages reported in Louisiana. NOLA reports power outages at pump stations.

It’s well over 250,000 outages in SE Louisiana, including Orleans, Jefferson, St. Bernard, Plaquemines, Lafourche, Terrebone, St. Charles Parishes, plus a few others.

Link to Entergy outages map:

Actually, the bigger problem in Orleans Parish right now is that power has been lost at some of the sewer lift stations.

Here’s an interesting story about stranded passengers at MSY:

And, power outages over 300,000 statewide:

NOLA still hasn't got the brunt of it with the rain. Supposed to slow and turn to the east.

At this time, I’m seeing this as more of a wind event than a rain event. Yes, it’s raining, but we’ve had more rain on a few days earlier in the year (March, May, June) in a much shorter timeframe. See my updated rain totals in post #37. All of this is subject to change as the day/night goes on.

We’ve lost Cox Cable for TV and AT&T for internet.

Really feel sorry for the residents who are impacted by the outages of the sewer lift stations in Orleans Parish. That could be very messy during this hurricane.

Both the Chalmette and Algiers ferries broke loose in the River. Both grounded.

https://www.wdsu.com/article/chalmet...river/37425529

update at 4:30 PM: just got an emergency alert on my cell. Major wind until 6:30 PM. True enough, the wind and rain picked up tremendously. And, of course, the power went out immediately.
