Asheville in the fall

My wife and I are heading down to AVL in a couple weekends. We were planning on grabbing a sandwich on the go and doing a short-ish hike (5-6 miles) along the Blue Ridge Parkway, and then spending the rest of the weekend drinking good beer and trying out the food. Do folks have any suggestions? The only thing we've locked in is hotel (staying in downtown Asheville) and dinner on Saturday night (we are going to try out The Admiral). I haven't been here in nearly 20 years (when I was a kid), so don't really have a great idea of what I should plan on. Thanks in advance for any tips!

I like hanging around downtown to see if I can spot any normal people. Seriously, its a great town for people watching. Its been more than 5 years, but I really enjoyed the zoo. Its a relatively humane facility where the animals have large enclosures. I think everything is native to the state, although I might be confusing it with another one. Its shady and hilly and a perfect place to be outdoors. Not far off the beaten track.

We will be there the first weekend in November. BamaVol Jr.#3 is getting married at Highland Brewery. We try to hit a couple breweries every visit. The rehearsal dinner is at Asheville Brewing Co.

Have fun. I always do.

Haven't been in a few years, but I always enjoyed a good beer from the Belgian bar in the basement of the Thirsty Monk... good to wash down my favorite bar menu item, a pint of bacon!

We're having a very, very late Fall here around Asheville. We had summer weather up until a week ago. So, if you're coming next weekend (Oct. 26-28), your timing is good to see some color, though this will certainly be a dull year. If you want specific suggestions for hikes, let me know more about what you like, and I'll respond.

Another recommendation for the Thirsty Monk - https://monkpub.com/
Great rotating beer selection.

I'll follow this too, as I'm in Asheville in a few weeks.
