Avianca reliability

Have a flight from BOG-SCL at 11.55pm on August 13, and am hoping to fly back in from Medellin on that morning/afternoon.

I realise my flight out of Bogota is quite late, but am trying to get an idea of how reliable Avianca is, and whether flying in the same day as I fly out will be more than ideal.

Thanks guys

MDE-BOG is blocked at right around one hour (actual flight time usually in the 30 minute neighborhood). For AV, this is an extremely high frequency corridor/shuttle style market with at least one departure an hour each way (often more).

Barring a volcano erupting and spewing enough ash clouds to shut down Colombia's airspace, I don't think there's an airline in the world that isn't sufficiently reliable to get you there. Any airline that can't perform on this really ought to just give up, cut up their airplanes and turn them into Coca-Cola cans!

You could probably walk from SKRG to SKBO and still make a 23:55 departure given that you are willing to spend all day just to travel a couple hundred miles.

What you are asking is the equivalent of worrying about flying QF out of MEL at noon to make a connection out of SYD at midnight.

It is true that Avianca MDE-BOG is like a bus service - they have something like 15 flights a day each way. That said, I would not cut it too close. I fly that route a lot, and often by the end of the day those flights are running 1 to 2 hours behind schedule. A little fog delay in the morning in BOG screws up the intra-Colombia schedule for the rest of the day.

If I was in your situation, I would book my MDE-BOG flight to arrive no less than 2.5 hours before your flight out of BOG, particularly if you have checked luggage.

Thanks for that.

Booked to come in 6 hours before.

Would rather be safe than sorry. Can access the AA Admirals Lounge too in BOG also.

Flights into Bogota are regularly delayed because of fog, bad weather and general overcrowding at that airport. I regularyl get delayed when flying to bogota - much more so than other airports i Colombia. Don't take any risks - allow plenty of time!
