Domestic US upgrades using KL Plat

Used to get automatic upgrade to F for domestic US flights on NW when I bought full fare due to my KL Plat status. What's word on that perk across CO and DL?

This benefit is an aspect of the NW-KL bilateral relationship and is unrelated to Skyteam, so there is no reason to assume that the same benefit will exist in relation to other US members of Skyteam. Some airlines within alliances have stronger ties and offer more mutual advantages than are available throughout the alliance (eg: QF-BA in OW or LH-UA in *A).
AFAIK, DL does not offer that to its own elites, let alone others. CO does (and on NW), so if you often fly full fare within the US and this matters to you, you may want to consider switching allegiance to CO.

Actually you don't need a full-fare ticket to get on the NW upgrade list, just your KL Plat number. This year I have been upgraded 5 to 6 days out as a KL Plat on domestic NW flights.

Continental upgraded me twice at the gate but it's uneven (prior to SkyTeam). It is truly a NW-KL relationship for sure as far as upgrades but my main point is you should get upgraded on NW flights in advance if you are KL Plat provided your number is in the record.

The difference is that on a full fare, you get upgraded at reservation time rather than having to wait for the EUA game.

EUA Game

I have been upgraded 100% of the time on 60 discount segments this year as a KL Plat on NW domestic flights.

Has anybody been upgraded on CO flights lately? With EUA or at the gate?

I remember just after the switch to the new KL program CO upgrades where a published benefit for KL Plat, but hard to "enforce". Now, it is no longer published in the partners list for CO, and I haven't had any flights on CO on mainline aircraft lately.

Have probably had over 40 flights on CO since KL-CO hookup and had 0 EUA and only 2 upgrades at gate. CO personnel just doesnt know about perk and CO system puts KL elite at bottom of upgrade list. There are always more plat, gold and silver on board esp. since it is for both CO and NW members. The 2 times I did get upgraded was due to personnel hardcoding me in on top of list

Free CO EUA upgrades were never a published benefit of the FD program.

Long before the SkyTeam membership muddied the waters, I managed to get upgraded a few times on CO as a KL PE. Since CO, NW and KL joined SkyTeam, I haven't been able to get any upgrades anymore. Agents at the gate, upon being interrogated, called their internal gurus, who then explained that CO would only give free upgrades to DL and NW elites, not KL.

I'm just hoping that the whole Flying Blue mess doesn't screw up the free upgrades on NW.

Actually this was a published benefit in the 2002 KLM Elite brochures (quotes exist in the archives). The problem is CO staff never seemed aware of this but mostly the fact that CO res system does not recognize the status of KL frequent flyer numbers the way that NWA does. NW upgrades were previously given to silver/gold KL members as well- not sure if this happens anymore though.
