SkyTeam Asia Pass?
Hello all,
I was wondering if any of you have had any experience with the SkyTeam Asia Pass. I'd like to plan a month-long excursion (that's how long I can get off work!) with it through Japan, China, and Thailand, and was wondering about your experiences with it. Would I have to contact a travel agent to go about booking the Asia Pass? How is CZ as a carrier--I trust I'd have to rely on them for travel through much of Asia. As I would probably be doing this during the summer, can I already book segments on Vietnam Airlines, or would I have to wait until their official entrance into SkyTeam? And would mile accumulation proceed normally? Thanks in advance!

You will definitely have to contact a travel agent. And it is probably a bad deal if you're mostly going to be in China and Thailand. Buying tickets locally in China will likely get you much better prices.
I'd also suggest reading these other threads from the past couple years that have discussed the pass for some additional information:

Thank you, sbm12. This is really helpful! So I'd probably be better off getting there and then buying tickets off eLong/ctrip, etc? From the time I spent in China, I do remember China Eastern having exceptionally cheap fares. This is also why I didn't consider the China pass, as that looked exceptionally expensive and also didn't earn you any miles. I should have applied that same logic to the Asia Pass, I guess.
I guess I'll look at DL partner carriers when I get over there. I just know that I used to use MU and they have abysmal earning rates and were usually late. However, they were REALLY cheap.
