Hello.

I will be arriving with a friend in Munich, Germany in 2 weeks and we have rented a car online through sixt.com.

The rental period is for 6 days, and since the other driver have a driver license less than a year (11 months), we had to pick one of the categories that allow under-a-year-licensed drivers to rent, so we took the "highest" category we can - CPMR.

I have an important question:

The other driver is also licensed to drive on automatic cars only. There's an option in "Click here for additional extras" when you book to choose "Automatic preferred" which we did, and we also written in the notes section of the order that we need n automatic car since one of the drivers only have automatic license - but what is the "Automatic preferred" means? could it be that we will arrive and there will be no automatic cars available for us? how can I make sure prior to arrive that we will have a car that he can drive also?

We are ready to pay a bit more if that what it takes to guarantee an automatic car.
My order number is 1738209716.

Thank you!

I will make the changes online then. Thanks Gary, you have been most helpful!

The above posts just reminded me, I put in for diesel and automatic. Not too fussed about automatic, but can you tell me how likely I am to get diesel (I'd guess pretty likely)?

Edited to add:

Also, Gary, I'd be much obliged if you could tell me if I need to fill out the online express check in paperwork, or if I can just leave it and do it in person, when I collect the car. Not 100% about some parts of it. And I'd rather not make a hash of it!

The on-line check in is optional. It speeds up the check ou process because you have entered your details. It is no problem to do this at the desk too, what ever is the most convenient for you.

PM me your reservation number, I'll improve your chances of receiving a Diesel.

regarding change of location: there are 2 different things here
1. oneway fee within the city: 9Euro
2. change of location and therefore basically making a new reservation under different circumstances: 60€

just drop of the car where you want without rebooking. then number 2 will not be charged, only number 1

regarding automatic:
why dont you book an automatic car? I dont understand...

Just signed up and emailed SPG status to Sixt rep to get Sixt platinum match. Rented from Sixt when in Europe, but had never bothered to sign up for their program before now (I know, I know).

I'm used to National/Avis/Hertz, where you can apply coupons and rate codes to rentals. It appears there are no options to do similar with Sixt. Is this correct? Renting for 6 days in Guadeloupe next week and trying to find a good rate on a convertible. Rate is rather high so things like free day coupons can make a difference.

Gary:

Does Sixt offer anything like the Hertz tranferdesk program, which allows one-way rentals (with no one-way fee) within Europe to repatriate cars?

Out of curiosity, do you help mostly with SIXT in the UK or can you help out with SIXT centers in Germany, as well? It looks like you can.

My question is mostly on the type of BMW 7-series SIXT uses in German rental centers. Specifically, which engine they use. Is it petrol or diesel? Which displacement? Long wheelbase or short wheelbase? Just curious, since I'm in the preliminary stages of organizing a Christmastime Europe trip for 2 families with my mom.

The rental form also says all cars get winter tyres. Is this a winter tyre or a snow tyre? What is it, exactly? Thanks in advance.

Here is the answer:

There is actually no guarantee on the automatic transmission in the car group CPMR. On the other hand our large fleet there is always has a chance of an automatic in another compact car group. We just cannot say which one it is going to be..

all 7series engine and wheelbase exist. however a 750i and 760i in the short version will be very unlikely. anyway, chances to get an Audi A8 or S-Class is probably as high as getting a 7series.

there are summer tires, m+s tires and winter/snow tires.
the last one is quite unlikely. winter tires usually means m+s tires.

Thank you!
So that means if there isn't a car in the CPMR group it will be downgraded to a lower category where there is an automatic available?

Thank you again!
