Supposedly post-holidays rush but I just find airports in general to be bad in terms of upgrades. They tried to upsell an X5... which they should’ve just given to me, honestly. Bentley SUV in the aisle which is intriguing.

was there this morning myself, I asked if the Bentley could be an upgrade from the X7… It was $525 more… per day… my rate for the X7 was $26/day. I politely declined

that’s a great rate for the x7. Been hovering in the mid 30s for the x5 with an upgrade to an x7 lately

Didn't like it for the price I had to pay - was offered a paid upgrade to an X5 (which was cheaper at the time I booked) or an Escalade). Declined both and walked to National where I had a considerably cheaper reservation.

They didn't have any X5 class I was told they had 5 trucks pick up cars that day to take to other locations. They originally offered me a 5 series with X drive but I said I needed a SUV so they gave me the Expedition. It would have been an $80 a day upgrade if I had to pay for it, looked like the only full size SUV they had on the lot.

The selection at ORD has been quite limited this winter, unfortunately. I was there last weekend also in an X5 and they only had a couple on the lot. They're supposed to be getting more cars in as spring comes in.

07roversc Feb 4, 2025 11:13 am

I have a couple more X5 reservations at ORD between now and the end of March. I need a winter vehicle and travel once or twice a month so I have been renting from trip to trip, it saves me on the airport transportation each way since I need the winter car anyway. When I booked the rates at Sixt were significantly better than everywhere else all winter.

Auto Enthusiast Feb 4, 2025 5:24 pm

Was this an outbound one-way? To where? They restricted which cars they're willing to give because of that?

07roversc Feb 5, 2025 7:19 am

No it was a local, they were willing to offer me what they had but they basically didn't have much at all on the lot. They said I could come back anytime during the rental to swap it if I wanted.

Andrea Waters Feb 7, 2025 2:10 am

Absolutely horrible selection at ORD yesterday evening, Thursday, 2/6. Had an X5 reserved and the app showed me that I was due to receive an X5 with 50,000 miles. I didn't accept in the app because I wasn't going to drive a car that has 50,000 miles on it on a two week roadtrip. The woman at the desk was very, very nice but explains there was nothing she could do. She looked and looked and couldn't find an alternative. I told her I was basically willing to take anything that was new. She had nothing.

I asked her when they retire cars and suggested that this one was getting a little old. She told me that cars are retired at Sixt at 600 days and this particular X5 only had 23 more days of service on it. In the end, I cancelled at Sixt and reserved something on the spot at National (where the selection was also pretty terrible in Executive aisle but all the cars were almost brand new).

A 9 day rental. The location was pretty new and less than 10 mins from the airport. Not an airport location so no free shuttle. It was about $20 by Uber (each way). I chose this location because it was about $150 cheaper than the airport location. The FD agent was super friendly, proactive upgrade and no wait!

caliform Feb 9, 2025 10:40 pm

I find the hotel / dedicated locations so much better on upgrades than airport outstations. Great upgrade!

I was a bit worried about getting an upgrade here because it was not an airport location. I was previously told that these elite benefits were only valid at airport locations and not available at non-airport locations (by Hertz tho).

caliform Feb 10, 2025 10:27 am

Your elite benefits are most definitely available at non airport locations, though even as a Diamond I have an embarrassingly low rate of proactively offered upgrades and an even more embarrassing amount of upsells.

I have a question regarding Sixt upgrades. I am a Sixt Platinum member which I received through my World Elite Mastercard. However, I already met the Platinum card requirements based on the number of rentals I have placed with Sixt. In addition, I sometimes book through my corporate code as well.

I would say that for around 90% of my rentals I get a free upgrade but I'm wondering why in some cases I don't. For example, today I was asked if I wanted to upgrade but at a cost. Initially they quoted me at around $150 to $200 extra a day but then they brought it down to $20 a day.

Is it mostly an availability thing?

caliform Mar 1, 2025 8:44 am

Arbitrary, it seems. Airports are the worst offenders - I’m sure stations and/or agents have an upgrade quota to hit because as a Diamond I get them too.

I was initially in a relatively new e-class however the odor was unbearable. They swapped me into an X6 that was somewhat better but still a bit funky.

I didn't realise the UK fleet was so bad, but if anyone is considering an ECAR run around, be prepared for poorly maintained, old (23 reg) and sad looking C2 Aircross.
When getting this from SOU I thought it might be due to availability/location, and this being a long term/subscription rental.
Then had to defleet on their request, did so at LHR T5, and they gave me a C2 that was somehow even more worn out.

I don’t bother Sixt at LHR.. been burned twice. Rented a BMW 1er Auto or similar tried to give me a manual Kia Ce’ed. Back and fourth they “status” matched my Avis Presidents Club. Gave me a 120i M sport that was banged up (fine nothing for me to worry about) but just the theatrical production was stupid.

Skoda was ok, but ACC was an extra purchase and the LKA was way too aggressive

Platinum bag?

ross1892 Jun 5, 2025 9:58 am

Hi,
I am looking for advice on what to expect to pay for an upgrade.

I have a RFAR (GMC Acadia 7 seats) booked from MCO in July for 29 days. What would i expect to pay for an upgrade to a FFAR or ZFAR per day?

I need to have the 7 seats.

Thanks

I guess this is something you may get when available as well. I'm Philadelphia they gave me a bag, it had water, cleaning hand wipes and something else. It was nice touch.

In general the Diamond treatment at STR airport is very good. They treat me very well.
And the Diamond cars are always parked just outside the terminal so need to walk to the regular Sixt Parking.
Next week I am renting for 12 days in AGP, let's see what they give me there.

For what it's worth, as a Platinum at first and now Diamond of a few years with a hundred+ rentals, I’ve never seen or heard about anything this.

Any recent experience or tips for LAS? Collecting next week Thursday evening. Reserved an X5 with Diamond status but hoping for an X7 or Escalade(with small upgrade fee).

caliform Jul 9, 2025 3:16 pm

X5 and up tends to have very slim upgrade chances. Inquire, and when offered an upsell, keep pushing on it, you might get what you want.

Location: SEA
Status: Platinum (National Status Match)
Reserved: LCAR (Merc. C-Class or Similar)
Received: Volvo V60 Cross Country Plus with 1.5k miles

This was my first rental with Sixt (Decided to switch after seeing exorbitant rates at National and disappointing choices at Hertz (PC member)). The app oddly provided me the option to choose my vehicle (Didn't do it as I only saw the notification after picking up) even though my mobile check in had failed. The lady at the booth was friendly but firm in terms of the upgrades she offered. I was initially hoping to get a Merc C-Class or 330i but she said they had ran out of those cars and only had a Volvo XC40 or a V60 (both with approx. 1.5k miles) for me to choose from (credit where credit is credit's due, I didn't see a single 330i or C300 in the lot). She then offered me the choice to upgrade to a GLC43 (initially 80/day, negotiated it down to 36/day but since this was a 15 day rental, I declined at the end) or CLE (didn't ask about the rate as we needed 4 doors) both also with approx. 1.5k miles (they seem to have taken delivery of a lot of these as I saw more of them than I did BMWs in the lot). I did also ask about platinum upgrades and she said that they had no upgrades available (She did offer me an additional discount on the GLC after hearing this). Still, I would say that the process was very efficient and enjoyable especially when compared to Hertz counter agents( who, during most of the times I've rented with them, are not only stingy about upgrades, but also charge crazy amounts for them). When I headed to the lot, I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that they had parked our car in the Diamond area. To conclude, although I wasn't totally blown away by what they had on offer (would've still loved an upgrade), I definitely got what I paid for and would definitely recommend renting with them.

Received: BMW 740i xDrive with 26K miles

App offered a range of paid upgrades to an X5, X6, GLE350 or 4 series convertible for $25/day. At the counter, the agent offered a complimentary upgrade to an X5 or X6. As I wanted a sedan for the drive to SFO, I asked if they have any 7 series and after talking to the garage folks, I was handed keys to a 2024 740i xDrive. It had 26K miles but still drove like new. An overall very pleasant rental experience (aside from the very long wait times for the shuttle).

BMW X3 or similar

Maybe someone can answer my question. Going to San Francisco July 31st. Booked a BMW X3 or similar. Anyone know what the other similar options are with Sixt if the X3 isn’t available?
