Received: Offered PSAR (BMW F30) which I sadly had to decline as I was going to be driving on gravel roads!!!
A quick shout out for the Sixt Franchise (Firs car rental) in JNB - very nice job and they were very concerned to make sure that I was happy. Will use again

See my response above. There used to be 760iL's in the fleet though not many. My colleague got one at MUC after booking it online and the station confirming it, but apparently FRA also can get them. Cost was well above XDAR though lately I have only seen S500L / 750iL as XLAN.

New one to me as I always get a one class UPG, but the agent said "my rate" was not upgradable according to her computer. She did ask why I didn't reserve my usual luxury class car, which was 2x more. Never had this happen even when I've reserved FS or better. Guess the $133 all in per week was too low, though it was booked thru Sixt's site from an email offer that didn't mention any restrictions other than being prepaid, non refundable. Still a decent deal though the polar vortex was in full force in FL.

Received: PWAR - Mercedes E200....

Lots of space, but boring to drive and OMG the navigation SD card kept popping out all the time. Called Sixt and they said it was an issue with new models. Ended up with some heavy duty tape to keep it in, after which it only bothered my 4-5 times a day....

#sad .

Pretty much the same thing they've told me every time at MCO, no matter what I've reserved or what rate. Never had an upgrade there. Between that and the add on for my wife as an additional driver making the fee less competitive, I've pretty much stopped using them here.

Dr_Fly_A_LOT Feb 8, 2019 11:32 pm

Sixt has two tiers of Platinum status - one that allows you to use the platinum counter, and one (based on # of rentals, I think 25 per year) that gives you the upgrade guarantee.

I personally (Diamond status) always get really nice upgrades (last time LAX from SFAR to XFAR, last time MCO from STAR to LTAR, etc.)

Booked: FDMR
Received: Mercedes C220 Automatic

Nice high spec model with very low miles. Was offered a choice of Jaguar F-Pace, BMW 5 Series or the Mercedes. As I arrived at the lot a newly cleaned S-Class Mercedes was parked up. Asked if I could swap to that but was told not possible. It was still there the next day when I returned so felt a little disappointing, although it would have been quite an upgrade from an FDMR so cannot feel to hard done by!

Why would you take the C-class over a 5 series? F-Pace also higher category although some don't like SUVs...

I have had a lot of BMW 5 series as rentals so fancied trying the C-Class for a change. In terms of the F-Pace I wasn't in the mood for an SUV this time. I did note at TLS they had a lot of Jaguar and Lexus SUV's, and a lot of BMW's too, so plenty of choice of nice cars.

Hello everyone!

Anybody know if there are any representatives from SIXT whom I can talk to directly? Or better, maybe one of you guys could answer my question:)
Do you have any clue about what car I can expect from SIXT Hamburg? I have no status and have a prepaid LDAR booking for two days this coming summer.
I would love to receive a Mercedes Benz E350d/E400d or a Jaguar XF 30d. What are the odds of me receiving one of these? Would hate to end up with a BMW 525d or any Audi A6, and would definitely not like to end up with a petrol car!

Thanks in advance:))

demue Feb 27, 2019 5:16 am

No idea about Hamburg. In Germany in general, A6 definitely possible. Often some 3.0 V6 Quattro from what I jad in the past. Some 530d (sometimes xd), never gotten a 525d. E350 can be, but not seen so often. Really depends plus fleet keeps changing.

in the sixt IOS app you can choose guaranteed diesel - but there's a surcharge. personal I would prefer the opposite vehicle choice (!) If its a big station they tend to be flexible when you are checking in and let you choose or upgrade for a low cost.

I have booked an S-Class or equivalent (XDAR) from DUS for 24 hours over a Saturday/Sunday. They seem to have S500's there amongst others, as well as more basic S Class models for XDAR category. Generally as a platinum, are they generous with upgrades at that station?

Really curious what you think an upgrade from an S Class would be?

I mean an upgrade to an S500 rather than just the more standard diesel model. They also have rather a lot of very exotic vehicles available there but I am of course not expecting to be upgraded to them.

My question was asked because the S500 is bookable as a separate class (XLAN) which would be an upgrade from XDAR. Similarly there is also the S350 (XCAN) which would also be an upgrade. So my question is really if anyone had experience of what a platinum might expect to be offered when booking XDAR,

Last time I had an "S-Class" booked in HAM, I ended up with an M550i. That took a lot of work and massaging, though. They had assigned an S550 by default which I really didn't need as a single driver.

Many thanks - that is really useful information. I'll report back with my experience at DUS. XDAR was an amazingly cheap price compared to XCAN and XLAN, so I am intrigued as to how they will handle any upgrades.

Yes please do. I have another rental in a few weeks in HAM, and this time I don’t think they’ll have an M550i - so not sure what to hope for.

What status are you btw? I’m sure that makes a difference too.

I am Platinum which was achieved through actual rentals rather than airline status, so normally I do always get some sort of upgrade. I have not rented in Germany since 2014 though. Mainly I rent in France.

I noted at DUS they seem to have G-Wagen and BMW i8, but I am not expecting one of them - I might try my luck if I see them on the lot though!

DUS
Platinum
Booked: Mercedes S Class or equivalent (XDAR)
Assigned: BMW 7 series Long Wheelbase
Received: BMW 7 series Long Wheelbase

There was a huge argument going on between three staff and a customer at the desk, so I just took the 7 series I was assigned with the plan to look around the garage and go back to the staff there if I saw something nicer. In the event my assigned car was high spec and in great condition, and there was not much on either level of the garage other than an Audi A8 and an Audi Q7 so I just took the 7 series. Very happy with it although a bit funny driving a long wheelbase with no passengers. Definitely no G-Wagen, S500 or BMW i8 there!

Yeah ... I’ve never seen the i8 or the G “just parked” there in DUS or HAM. Last time I was assigned an S550 long, but I successfully argued out of it as that was an oddball car to drive alone ... this time I don’t know what I’ll do.

I had a longer look around both levels at DUS this morning when I returned the car, I spotted one Range Rover, around 4 BMW 740 standard wheelbase and a couple of S350D standard wheelbase. Didn't see any other 740le like mine, I must say it was quite a challenge in the very narrow underground hotel car park! The only mildly sporty car was an Audi A5 coupe and a Maserati Quatroporte. Apart from that there really was nothing too exotic. I guess the i8 and G must need to be specifically booked.

Two rentals

EDI

Rented Lucky Dip Car got a Audi Q2 ILMR very nice had a few nice options one was Nav.

NAP (Naples)

Rented SDMR BMW Serie 2 Active Tourer

received SWMR BMW Serie 2 Active Tourer 216d manual with Nav. Not too sure if this really was a upgrade, the X3 next to ours would have been a nice upgrade.

BTW, I am platinum

Gold member here,
I rented an FDMR at CGN, asked the lady at the desk whether they have some petrol 3 series better than 320 and she upgraded me to a FWAR 330i estate.
Loved the car, it was relatively new with low milage.

An upgrade because of the Nav you mean? If they really do consider that an upgrade, it's pathetic.

One from last week

LYS (one way rental to MRS)
Platinum
Booked: Citreon Space Tourer 9 Seater (FVMR)
Assigned: Opel Vivaro 9 seater with NAV (FVMR)
Received: Opel Vivaro 9 seater with NAV (FVMR)

I did ask about several Mercedes Luxury Vans on the lot but was told they were not available for a one way rental (and indeed when I was booking they were not an option I could select). Typical of a one-way rental I was given a high miles vehicle with lots of damage that they were no doubt happy to send to Marseilles! It was clean and perfectly roadworthy and given the purpose of my trip it was absolutely fine. The staff at Lyon were very friendly and courteous.

Of note is that the lot at Marseilles Airport was crammed with lots of lovely new luxury vehicles and premium convertibles, assume they have just received their summer stock.

It is technically an upgrade, but given in practice it is unlikely they would have any of that model without NAV, then I wouldn't consider it a proper upgrade within the context of most experiences at Sixt. Avis would absolutely consider it an upgrade as they disable the NAV systems whenever they can unless you pay!

clubman May 7, 2019 1:22 am

I realise that, but in today's day and age when you can easily manage with Waze and other Nav options on your phone (which often work better than the built in ones), I would not consider that an upgrade.

Got: Mercedes C220 stationcar - 194hp, which was nice. But quite a boring drive.

Not sure why, but no matter which station, I book BWM or Audi and more often than not get Mercedes. Since I know the other two cockpits quite well, it's always a hassle to then get used to the Mercedes.

Assigned: Mercedes C Class Convertible (LTMR)
Received: Maserati Ghibli Ribelle 430bhp SQ4 V6 Twin Turbo

Well, this was my best ever upgrade, one of 200 of a ltd edition with only 600km on the clock and the upgrade package. The weather forecast was bad so I enquired about something fast but not convertible at the desk. Was offered the Maserati - a great drive and very nice loud exhaust, perfect for the smaller roads I was on.

One slight warning - French gilets jaunes didn’t seem to like such a smart car and I had a few unpleasant gestures on the road, I was only parking in Chateau so not a problem but I wouldn’t want to leave such a vehicle in public parking due to the current political climate in rural France.

Two questions:

I booked a “lucky chance car” (Group CCCC) at LAX this summer (July) as a Sixt Flying Blue platinum member.
Anyone can predict what I can expect in terms of vehicle?

I also booked a Citroen C1 (Group MCMR) at Brindisi Airport (BDS) in June
Anyone can predict what I can expect in terms of vehicle?

It is almost impossible to predict really. Certainly reports of CCCC vary wildly but don't expect anything too exciting and if you are lucky you will have a pleasant suprise.

If you only book a Citreon C1 your upgrade (if you get one) will not be very interesting. If you want the best upgrades you must at least book a BMW 3 series sized vehicle or equivalent, ideally an automatic. Then in my experience the agents are more open to offering really nice vehicles. The key in Europe is to book an automatic even if you book a very basic car as often availability of automatics is very restricted. Slightly off topic but a colleague of mine booked a compact automatic from Enterprise at Geneva and they were so short that they had to give her a Mercedes E Class as it was the smallest auto they had.

I don't like the habit some agents in Sixt France have of trying to force you to take extra insurance for an upgrade. Normally if you insist they will upgrade anyway without insurance as a Platinum.

I’ve booked a LWAR at Rostock City for 11 days. I’m platinum via Flying Blue, and have booked via the Hilton Diamond-rate. Is an upgrade worth hoping for?

We’re driving to Prague, which I’ve told them in the booking process, so I guess the really interesting cars are out of question. But anyone knows what happens if they assign us with an XDAR or a LWAR Jaguar anyways? I don’t suppose Sixt Rostock is over floating with luxury cars to choose from..

Just in case for reference from Sixt Germany:

Territorial restrictions

The vehicle selection can restrict travel to certain countries. For a description of these restrictions on admission, the countries are divided into three zones.

Zone 1: Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Great Britain, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, San Marino, Sweden, Switzerland, Spain and Vatican

Zone 2: Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia

Zone 3: All countries which are not in zone 1 or 2.

Jaguar, Maserati, Land Rover and Porsche cars as well as all luxury cars may enter only in Zone 1 countries. Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen cars up to group L*** are allowed to enter only in Zone 1 countries as well as Poland and the Czech Republic, while X*** cars are only allowed to enter in Zone 1 countries. Vehicles of all other brands may enter only in the zones 1 and 2.

Sixt Madrid

Traveling in late September. Is one of the 6 available Sixt locations in Madrid better than the rest? I remember last time I researched for a booking in Germany, airport and train stations had added costs. I think I'd prefer to pick up the car from one of the three city locations: Plaza Espana, Ministerios Castellana, or Nuevos Ministerios.

As always, I'm concerned with the "or similar" designation. Is there a list of all cars available for each ACRISS code for Spain as there is for Germany? i.e. the meit wagen - talk website linked in post 487?
