Spacebed and Upgrading

I have a few questions about upgrading on the non-stop LAX-SIN-LAX flights (and I bought my ticket via a travel agent):

1) Is it worth using 45,000 miles to upgrade each way? In other words, how comfortable is the spacebed? I've heard that you tend to slip as you try to sleep on the spacebed. Can you actually get sleep on it?

2) Can you cancel an upgrade redemption certificate once it has been issued? So will you be able to get your miles re-deposited back to your account?

3) Are you allowed to change your route from non-stop SIN-LAX to SIN-NRT-LAX? I might have to do this because of time constraints; meaning, I have to arrive in LAX around noon time and the non-stop route arrives in the late afternoon at around 4 pm. This is important because I want to catch a 4:30 pm LAX-IAD flight (or possibly an earlier one) to avoid waiting in LAX until 10 pm and have to spend NEW YEAR'S on the plane. Also, what are the implications of switching my routes with regards to upgrading changes?

Thanks!

I would take the spacebed upgrade if you can.
This summer i flew EWR-SIN in raffles and when I arrived in singapore i was well rested and spent all day browsing around singapore before going on another flight to MLE the same night.

I have also done the exec economy , and its not a bad deal.

I dont know how the routing change would affect the upgrade.
Im sure someone else here can answer that.

The new business class seats are superior to these spacebeds, but I just can't wait THAT LONG anymore!!! I have 50,000 miles and I've waited for years to be eligible for an upgrade.

1) The Spacebed is very comfortable unless you are used to traveling in First. I've slept almost all the way from EWR to SIN in it, waking up only for the meals. From my experience, I only experience slippage on the Spacebed when wearing business trousers. When I wear jeans or the SQ PJs, which is most of the time, I have never experienced slippage.

2) Yes, for a fee in $ or miles to redeposit the mileage. Check the SQ website. Your economy class booking is canceled when you upgrade, so you may not have an economy class seat available anymore on that flight when you cancel the upgrade.

3) You can change the route if your economy class ticket allows you to. Obviously, any upgrade you have on the nonstop SIN-LAX will be canceled and will have to be redeposited with the appropriate fee, and you will need upgrade availability on the SIN-NRT-LAX flight to upgrade.

Of course you should upgrade if the cabins still there. You need a decent sleep if your going to fly halfway round the world in one go. 45,000 miles seems a bargain.
