2) Can you cancel an upgrade redemption certificate once it has been issued? So will you be able to get your miles re-deposited back to your account?
3) Are you allowed to change your route from non-stop SIN-LAX to SIN-NRT-LAX? I might have to do this because of time constraints; meaning, I have to arrive in LAX around noon time and the non-stop route arrives in the late afternoon at around 4 pm. This is important because I want to catch a 4:30 pm LAX-IAD flight (or possibly an earlier one) to avoid waiting in LAX until 10 pm and have to spend NEW YEAR'S on the plane. Also, what are the implications of switching my routes with regards to upgrading changes?
Thanks!

Of course you should upgrade if the cabins still there. You need a decent sleep if your going to fly halfway round the world in one go. 45,000 miles seems a bargain.
