Please post your award booking experience in J and F

Found this on LH forum. Maybe we could also have one for SQ. The aim is to gather award booking experience with KF for middle and long-haul flights in J and F:

- Which route/airline did you book and which class?
- How many award miles & cash per person?
- How many days/weeks/months did you book in advance?
- Have you been able to book your preferred dates of travel with immediate confirmation/Waitlist?
- How often did you have to check/call until you got the seats?
- Were you happy with the award booking procedure (e.g. online/by phone)?

- SQ SYD-SIN F, with a stopover, early June 2018

then SIN-CDG F three days later.

- 148,000 KF miles each, plus ~ $138 AUD or so per person for the stopover and various taxes
- Close to a year
- Immediately able to book (including stopover)
- All done online but had to do the stopover adjustment over phone
- Very happy with all dealings - very professional.

SYD-SIN-HND/NRT-LAX, later changed to AKL-SYD-SIN-HND/NRT-LAX, then AKL-SYD-SIN-NRT-LAX, finally AKL-SYD-SIN-NRT-LAX. NZ J/SQ F/SQ F/NH F.

Overnights (but not stopovers) in SIN and TYO.

- Booked 9 months out
- 127,500 miles
- S$420 taxes+fees
- Called in to book (partner award)
- Inventory seen by phone agents always matched sq.com or ua.com, except for NZ J seats, which took a few rounds of HUACA
- Finding inventory was pretty easy. SYD-SIN-TYO had decent availability, NZ's morning trans-Tasman flights always seemed to have J space (if you could get SQ to see it) and NH has ample TPAC F space available.
- Only unhappiness is that NZ downgraded my original flight from a 787 to a single-cabin narrowbody, so I had to change to the next flight to stay in J. I wanted to fly WLG-SYD or ZQN-SYD but I just couldn't get SQ to see the award seats shown on UA's site

Sorry if I'm missing the point, but what exactly is the benefit of this?

Same as the application threads in the CC forums. Surfacing issues with SQ award bookings, tips for ticketing SQ awards on problematic carriers, etc. These things change over time so an ongoing list of issues can be helpful compared to digging through ancient threads that may or may not be relevant anymore.

- Which route/airline did you book and which class?
Business Class Saver Award, MNL-SFO
Routing: MNL - SIN - HKG - SFO with an overnight in SIN (21 hours) and a day trip to HKG (11 hours)

- How many award miles & cash per person?
88,000 miles + 72 USD

- How many days/weeks/months did you book in advance?
9 months

- Have you been able to book your preferred dates of travel with immediate confirmation/Waitlist?
Confirmed booking, no waitlisting

- How often did you have to check/call until you got the seats?
Just once

- Were you happy with the award booking procedure (e.g. online/by phone)?
Booked over the phone since you can't do the multi-stop itinerary online (which is my only gripe about the process, otherwise it was painless)

- Which route/airline did you book and which class?
SQ MEL-LHR SUITES
AC LHR-LGA (NYC) J
SQ JFK-MEL SUITES/FIRST

- How many award miles & cash per person?
MEL-LHR 112,625 (Suite) AUD489.49
LHR-JFK 65,000 (Biz) SGD655.80
JFK-MEL 116,875 (Suite/First) USD417.74 + SGD35.20
Total 294,480 Each

- How many days/weeks/months did you book in advance?
355 days (Day of flight release)

- Have you been able to book your preferred dates of travel with immediate confirmation/Waitlist?
Still waitlisting for MEL-LHR for flight one day ahead

- How often did you have to check/call until you got the seats?
Used chasers over 3 times for MEL-LHR, still on waitlist

- Were you happy with the award booking procedure (e.g. online/by phone)?
Easy phone call or online booking. We find SQ booking service is really good, but call during Singapore working hours as their after hours call centre is less helpful (or should I say, less knowledgeable)

1) JFK - FRA - SIN - SYD (SQ 25/SQ 231)
2) 355 days
3) 152k/person + $77.50 USD x2 = 304k + $155
4) Confirmed at booking but hoping to switch to SQ 221 or SQ 211 to avoid lengthy layover or SQ 285 (AKL) if that opened. May also consider SQ 245 (BNE) in J since that's a better place for us to start (going to BNE, SYD, and AKL) but it would be a pity to sacrifice a Suites flight (much less F) since who knows when I'll get one again and the current set-up has 3. The good news is that SQ 245 is listed as an A359 for the day in question and is a daytime flight so might be better routing and limits the amount of time we are traveling.
5) Booked online no issues - had been planning this for a while so had a pretty good idea of what the process would look like

May i know when is your flight?
There is speculation SYD will get the new Suites first when new A380 start operating. New product showcase is set on Nov 2nd. We shall wait and see...

Also AKL will be on A380 during summer.

August 2018. From my time looking, SQ 231 and SQ 241 were readily available but SQ 221 and SQ 211 were proving much more difficult. Unfortunately SQ241 would likely misconnect with SQ25 so we only had the one option

Not sure anyone cares but adding this in for the record for future reference. This is a change from my original which is listed above (leaving that as well though for reference since it is a data point on booking this route the other direction). New routing below:

1) SYD - SIN - FRA - JFK (SQ222 to SQ26 in Suites the whole way)
2) 355 days
3) 152k/person + $$$ (re-issue fee involved so different than normal price)
4) Confirmed at booking pending re-issuance from ticket desk. Initially SQ 232 was available (the target A380 if first route is SQ221) but disappeared before I called. Flights aren't until next September so still think there's a good shot that at least SQ 222 may have the new F and hopefully the full deal will.
5) Called to switch existing itinerary. Connected straight away and change process was easy. Submitted to ticket desk for re-issuing with change fee.
