Multiple reservations (different class) on same flight not possible?

Hello All,

Wanted to share my recent SQ reservations experience with all of you. I had a First class redemption booking SFO-BKK-SFO in which the onward was confirmed and return was wait listed. In the meantime as a backup I purchased a commercial booking in Economy class for the exact same dates as a backup in case the redemption wait list did not clear.

Turns out that the moment I ticketed my economy commercial booking, my First class redemption was CANCELLED. No calls no enquires, just got cancelled automatically. Frantically, I called SQ and they informed me that because my SFO-BKK F redemption was in a confirmed status, the system automatically cancelled my entire redemption booking because apparently you cannot hold 2 confirmed seats on the same flight even if they are in different classes.

This was news to me and I am now stuck trying to get a confirmation on a last minute redemption in the hopes that it will clear and I can cancel my commercial booking

Common requirement for all airlines. The enforcement varies, however. Some airlines will even cancel both of your booking if you are double booked.

Correct. As terryk points out - holding multiple bookings on an airline is not allowed unless you have made special arrangements for the extra seats (such as for a passenger of size, or for extra cabin baggage (for example a musical instrument) or for a stretcher etc). Additional seats need to be correctly added into the booking system to ensure they aren't canceled.

Hope you get your seats back!

System problem

While the two bookings on the same flight may have been the problem, the cause is likely to be the fact that you can no longer have a confirmed award segment on an award itn that has one wait-listed segment.

If you book a multi-segment itn, with one wait-listed sector, all sectors are wait-listed. The email confirm does not show this, but trying a dummy booking and looking it up on sq.com will confirms this.

BTW, you can no longer cancel wait-listed or confirmed redemption bookings online.
