Town Hall Hotel & Apartments, London - Design Hotels [Master Thread]
maybe Lurkers could look into this?
It is suggested that you may call customer service about room rates.

If I understand correctly, the issue here is about the rates being quoted without VAT being included. In the UK, hotel rates have to be shown including VAT. All other SPG properties are correctly listed, but not the new Town Hall property.
It is a requirement to have the price show up inclusive of VAT, otherwise somebody may complain via the ASA about this. The ASA have upheld complaints before, notably with IHG for not correctly displaying pricing.
Can the Lurker team perhaps pick this up internally to get this pricing corrected on site? I'm not sure who we would pick this up with as customers.
Also, does anyone know if Design Hotels stays are eligible for double points in the current Take Two promotion? It's not clear from any of the T&Cs pages I've looked at.

The location is a little bit rough around the edges, but it is only a 5 minute walk to Bethnal Green underground station to get in to central London.
I had booked one of the 1 bedroom suites and it was a huge open room, with a raised bedroom area and bath. There was a seating area, kitchen, dining table and storage space, plus a separate but small toilet and shower.
The room seemingly has all of the original features, with a high ceiling, wood panelling etc, along with modern touches. I have a few pictures of the room, so I will see if I can add them to this thread when I get chance.
I enjoyed my stay and you get a lot of bang for your buck with the size of the room for the money. I will definitely stay again and try a different category of room to compare.

I have just stayed here for three nights on an aavacations.com deal (hotel was pricey, but airfare was a bargain). I had an 'Exeecutive Suite and it was a very nice spacious room with full kitchen, washer / dryer and a nice big bathtub. The price was comparable to central London (but these packages are a bit rando in hotel pricing), but the room was much much bigger and nicer, and for three nigths much pleasanter.
My dad stayed one night (16000 points) in a King hotel room - no kitchen but lots of space and a big bed - and i was able to cook him dinner in my room and we sat comfortably and chatted for hours over dinner and a bottle of wine.
My breakfast was included and was very good, though the room is small - it is much calmer, pleasanter than most central London hotels.
My room was on the back of the hotel, overlooking a gym where outside broadcast boxing was happenning, whuch made lots of noice all evening and all night as they packed up afterwards - the non-boxing night was fine, but the two nights with boxing were a bit much.. And the trash men came to emoty the bins of the gym and the apartments next door at 5am! The front or the east end of the hotel would probably be quieter and more desirable.
Transportation is painful - the Central Line is 5 minutes away at Bethnal Green but it seems to be packed to bursting at every time of day, which on hot, sticky summer's days is not very pleasant. To get back to Heathrow I opted to go the wrong way to Mile End and take the District Line to Hammersmith and then the Piccadilly - I had seat and space for my luggage and very few steps or walking, but it took 1 hour and 45 minutes to get to Terminal 5.
In summary,I wouldn't do it for one night (the Central Line with lauggage is horrid, but manageable with nothing to carry), but if I needed to be in London for a few days I think it would be a good choice - especially if you want space to chill in an evening (there's not much nightlife around the hotel I don't think).
I never got around to visiting the gym and pool in the basement - apologies for not being able to review that.
I think people probably need to think long and hard about staying at this property at the moment.
I booked a one bedroom apartment which had some odd design features. It had a full kitchen which was good, but only a 15cm cupboard for 4 items of clothing. The TV in front of the bed was a cheap 13 inch thing, and the sofa in the living room wasn't really comfortable enough to recline on.
Service was rather insipid. I had 60kg of luggage and had to get it up some stairs and through several sets of non-automatic doors. A fellow guest saw me and gave me a hand through most of it, somewhat embarrassingly. On check-out the one person who was helpful ended up being the hotel driver and was just helping out because nobody else was - so do consider using him when you're in the area.
On the upside, the Typing Room restaurant is approaching Michelin star level, there's a second restaurant which looks good, they have a more than passable hotel bar and Satans Whiskers is one of London's top bars and is just the opposite side of the road.
As I said above, I ended up checking out a day early because the combined noise from the main road and some odd generator (like a fridge or Aircon, but not either) meant I really struggled to get to sleep. They didn't argue and immediately made arrangements, so I can't complain there. I suspect I might not have been the first.
