Now, if United Easy Update works and notifies you in a way you can immediately know, then you can check to see what seat in First you were assigned and if you can move to something better. If you can't, chances are 6F will still be available.
However, Row 1 on the Airbus is not bad, frankly. You can't stretch out as much as Row 6, but you don't need to keep your knees bent 90 and your feet flat to the floor, either.

Well, I reckon that the chances to loose 6F when you get upgraded are very close to 100% @:-) .
Did you check the seatmap if any of the places you could live with are still available?

It is absolutely ridiculous to suggest that 6F > row 1 of F.
F is always better. On a transcon, F will get a decent meal and free-flowing wine and spirits, not to mention a much wider seat and generous recline. So what if you get somewhat less legroom.

I've sat in 1A on a TED flight and in 1F on a 752. I found both miserable due to my long legs. I've never been in row 1 in Airbus F. Given the considerations offered above, I think I'll just stay in 6F and hope my 500 milers actually convert to miles.
Thanks.

gre, if you really want to avoid row 1, it might make sense to not waitlist for upgrades. It might be better to check the seat maps (using dummy bookings on ual.com) just before your 1P upgrade threshold opens at 72 hours before departure time. If only row 1 is available, you can save the five 500-mile upgrade certificates for another trip.

1B is my favorite on the A319. The bulkhead doesn't extend as far as it does in front of 1CD, so it's easy to stretch your legs out to the right into the aisle if the cutout doesn't give you enough leg room. You also don't have to get up to let 1A out. And it's definitely better than row 1 on the 757.

As a 1P, you can register to have your e500s continue to convert to miles on expiration.

Why is there no emPower in F on the A319? The mainline 320 has emPower in F - when the plugs aren't blocked off, that is.
IMO, if the equipment can get used on a transcon, but has no seat power - that's lame.

Since this thread came up again, I'll add something that I just learned recently:
On the TED 320 (not sure about mainline) Row 10 C and D do recline some and Row 11 has limited recline. There was an FA deadheading in 10C and didn't want it until she checked the recline. I was in 11D and it definitely had limited recline. 10 ABEF don't recline at all.

OK, for me remember E+ rows, 6, 10 & 11.
This is the kind of information that makes FT rock for me and I could only imagine others too!
