I've seen this regularly, most probably BA's IT, it shows an amazing WOW factor price on the BA 'Find Our Cheapest Fares' and maybe it will go lower than Ł3k but it's not Ł1730...........unfortunately.

Was hoping that BA would relaunch their sale today, does not seem much of a sale, most of the (sale offer) flights have to be completed first part of next year. I was looking for flights to Sydney for November, is there any point in waiting for the next BA sale? I suspect prices for this route will increase as it is so close to Christmas (returning 9th December).

IIRC the general view on the board is that for the highly desirable routes BA Revenue Management is likely to only release the more flexible and higher price buckets initially. Once those have been snapped up (or not) by the people who have absolutely fixed dates and are price insensitive, then Rev Man releases the cheaper buckets. Having said that… important caveat… Rev Man is a dark art!
It has become much less predictable recently, not just in terms of route-specific pricing strategies but as a consequence fare bucket availability and avios seat availability. It’s definitely getting the more informed buyer to think harder about what to buy and when.
Ultimately if forward sales continue to meet targets they won’t change.

I've been looking at DUB-SJC and that comes in at around €2644 / Ł2307 in business. If I add a car to make it a €300 deposit holiday, it's pretty much the same price +/- €2.
Did look at PE prices from various starting points, and most of the time, for my dates, there was a few Ł100 price difference with PE being a good Ł1500+.
Looked at AA and can get basic economy, ex-EU, for around Ł350, Ł470ish for main cabin, and PE 6x that. Ł1k+ more for business.
Used to pay around Ł700 for PE returns via AA.
Looked at GOT-SJC and that starts at around Ł1400 in PE booked with AA vs. possibly double that booked with the BA website.
Did have a look at MAN-PDX in PE with car hire:
A little over Ł1220 for a week (business Ł3085)
About Ł400 more if starting from DUB (Ł1650 / €1884+) or around Ł2348 in business.
From Ł1144 if starting from ARN in PE.

These days it feels like there is a sale every single week, across a lot of different airlines.
Now it's the "original sale", recently it was the "business class sale", etc... I've even received an email from the Wine Flyer about the latest BA sale. Crazy how they're pushing it.
It kind of defeats the purpose when sales are that frequent (and don't offer huge savings). I'd rather get one or two sales a year with real discounts instead.

Exactly. Anyone who manages to get a financial benefit from a modern 'sale' is usually someone who has a preplanned necessary purchase they have delayed until they can get 5-10% off it, not someone just browsing on the off chance who miraculously finds a 50% discount on a discretional booking. It used to happen like that, but not any more.
