How can you tell whether a restaurant's Resy credit will come through? : r/amex

sounds like it is not an uncommon problem, and there are false positiives too

There was (still is?) a glitch that would cause non-Resy restaurants to trigger the credit. It happened to me at a local pub that's not on Resy.
maybe amex is only doing something a name match, so it isnt 100% accurate and some errors do happen. e.g. restaurants names that are different from their registered company name

I'm fairly sure the actual credit trigger is against a list of specific merchants by ID, but the process that keeps that list up to date could have fuzzy matching errors.

well it seems that, amex have difficulty identifying restaurants depending on how they process their payment

restaurants appear as chowbus Gold $50 Resy Credits don’t work? : r/amex
while it seems people got the credit for non-resy restaurants due to chowbus Got Resy $50 Credit using Amex Gold at Chowbus Restaurant?? : r/amex. in face someone even got credit for non-dining spend

known problem i got my $50 credit from buying clothing. idk if they’re gonna reverse my credit it’s been a few weeks and haven’t seen any reversal
btw, i only suggested the name matching because i cant see how using merchant id will lead to false positives, unless amex recycle their merchant id, which should not happen. but now it seems like identifying resy restaurants isnt a straightforward matter at all

It appears there is a store number in the charge.

The charge appears like this: UNCLE JULIOS 044 044COLORADO SPRI CO

Previous to June 2025, the charge appeared as follows: "HACIENDA COLORADO SPCOLORADO SPRI CO" and the Resy credit always triggered automatically.

You can request individual gift card greetings and they write them by hand, but I never mess with that.
The important part is that the food is great and it gives me an easy way to use all my Resy credits from the Delta, and upcoming Platinum cards.

Forgive me for this question. But in order to use the resy credit by sept 30 for this quarter, do I actually have to make a reservation in resy? Here in nyc most of the time my spouse and I just walk into restaurants without a reservation.

can I just use the card at a restaurant that works with resy without a reservation? Thanks

Yes, you just need to pay for a meal using your enrolled Platinum card before Oct 1st. No need for an advanced reservation.

Yes, you just walk in and pay with your amex plat. Transactions usually come through Toast Tab (https://pos.toasttab.com/). Hence, any gift card you purchase through the restaurant's website that go through Toast will also qualify. See this forum for more detail: Resy Credits: Experiences and Strategy (Delta cards, personal Gold)

you dont need a reservation, you can use it at RESY affiliated restaurants but you DO have to have activated the benefit prior.. so go activate, walk in and dine. Its going to possible annoy restaurants when TWO ppl walk into a restaurant and ask to split the bill on TWO Platinum cards. ;-0

Or ask to put $100 on the Plat and the remaining balance on Gold to get its Resy credit and the 4x MR points.
