So yes, I think what you say is accurate. I've thought about it as a security issue. Not sure a good solution exists except to say, CX allows device switching (good!) and you are auto logged off one device when you log in with the new one. So the other person would have to consistently log back in as you. Not perfect but it eliminates the biggest potential problem - a "one and done" scenario where you can only use the freebie on ONE device.

It is limited to one device. Connecting to a new device will automatically disconnect the other.
To connect, go to connect.cathaypacific.com or wifi.cathaypacific.com
You would have to enter your seat number and your last name.
Others cant chance it either. I believe the system would ban your MAC address after 3 wrong attempts.

Speed HKG-PVG also fast and very cool to FT in the air...

I don't know the tech, but I can pretty confidently say some subset of the A350-900 fleet (the early deliveries, which were also the first CX birds with Wifi) has godawful internet speeds which line up with the above. It really is a joke.
But the 77Ws and many of the A330s consistently have speeds that are higher than that graph. I haven't flown enough of Cx's A350-1000s to say conclusively but I think maybe they are faster too.
Hopefully someone here knows more technical details.
But I'd get a lot of money a bunch of CXs A350-900s have some of the worst Wifi speeds out there. It's pretty abysmal.

China airlines will be offering free WiFi (texting) to all customers, and browsing to PEY or above and Tiered members from August.
I wonder if CX will slowly expand free wifi to at least gold membersit feels falling behind ngl, but given the slow wifi speed even now, its a bit difficult.

Its not common but ultimately if everyone else gives out free wifi (even just messaging) they somehow need to follow the trend.

And even when it is 'free for all passengers' that could mean free low-bandwidth 'messaging only' for some, and/or a free one-hour block for premium economy... there are a lot of options there. But at some point, yes, I think Cathay will make those moves.

I have no doubt that Cathay will "slowly expand" free Wi-Fi and maybe to Golds as the first step, as a status perk, before eventually unlocking it for every passenger from tip to tail but I don't think this will happen quickly (we're talking years, IMHO)), and nor will it be driven by the action of any specific airline, it'll just be reflective of the overall industry-wide trend.

I don’t fully agree. I mean look at regional business class, it feels like they’re getting too much pressure and need to go for a flat bed product.

quite sure the argument of the current generation of regional business class happen before covid hits but that's CX and you don't expect them to make significant changes in short period of time. they will make it happen one day but just take time
