=========================================
In general about Royal Ambassador (re) qualification,
As per Tim O'Brien's post about IHG-corporate explaining RA criteria:
As you are aware,
Royal Ambassador is our invitation only tier with the number of members invited each year
limited to ensure our hotels are able to consistently deliver on the benefits promise,
elevating your stay experience at InterContinental Hotels & Resorts.

Although we do not currently have a published criteria for Royal Ambassador,
consideration is determined by variable activities within a members account such as
- qualified paid room nights & spend across our luxury brands
* Regent, Six Senses, Intercontinental, Kimpton
- member region,
- primary hotels,
- category (of the hotel class / €$ĄŁ price levels compared to currency rates / competition / city / region / country / continent )
- tenure (repeat custom / average spend at hotel)
Accompanying or adjoining reservations,
such as the additional rooms of your family etc are not included for Royal Ambassador consideration
but are included in determining Spire Elite status within IHG Rewards Club
.

-----------------------------

* FT:IHG forum community group consensus / empirical evidence showsm
- that members must have stayed at different unique hotels per city / country / region / continent
the amount of uniques needed for RA qualification is unknown but generally extended long stays at just 1 hotel do not qualify
- IHG-corporate showing keen interest in how much guests are spending €$ĄŁ at hotel's own operated F&B / Spa / transport / extra services / other venues. atacama40 has given us insights that extra spend at the hotel charged to the hotelfolio generates EQP but also flags the database as high valued spending guest
- one must have AMB to get considered for RA invitation by IHG as IHG collects its data via AMB as they seem to evaluate over a longer period the length of one's tenure / devotion / spend / undisclosed criteria at stayed IC-hotels
-----------------
Although from 2017,
LoyaltyLobby shows us the standard details/statistics per guest/IHG1rewards member that IHG tracks.
https://loyaltylobby.com/2017/03/06/...nfo-of-course/
IHG mentiones other undisclosed criteria that add to its decision to send out Royal Ambassador invitations

2025
For 2025,
it seems RA (re) qualification is done in 2 batches: NOV 2024 & JAN 2025
There are 12 requalified RA and 2 new RA that have joined us at timestamp 1 JAN 2025.
There are 1 requalified RA and 3 new RA that have joined us after timestamp 1 JAN 2025
A total of 13 requalified RA and 5 new RA for 2025 that have graciously shared their statistics on FT.

Total paid IC nights: 112 at 8 unique ICs in China
Total IC EQP: 290k. Out of these 290k EQPs,
46k are earned from stays booked from TAs : ihg luxury and lifestyle program (which gives EQNs and EQPs).
a few point nights at Regents, Kimptons, IC
Importantly, I used cashback sites for all my stays, except when booked from TAs.
So, spendings do count towards RA even if cashback sites are used.
I have relatively small amount of incidental spendings, but seldomly book the cheapest room.
In most cases I directly book club rooms / junior suites.
I have an IHG credit card and use it for all my stays.

The only other place on the internet that has an interest in RA (re)qualification statistics is at the comments at Loyaltylobby,
more 2023 RA datapoints can be found there:
https://loyaltylobby.com/2022/12/09/...re-your-stats/
https://loyaltylobby.com/2023/01/18/...re-your-stats/

Update 2023:
- it seems no new RA have been invited by IHG
- criteria for RA requalification are still unknown
- geographical location of member / country account registration seems of some impact due of covid19(restrictions/availability)
- RA is processed in weekly batches starting december 2022
- proof by nicolas75 shows RA qualification for 2024 seems to be strictly based on IC hotels only (not Regent, Kimpton, SixSenses anymore)

==============================================

Update 2020 / 2021:
RA status was extended due to the global pandemic of covid19

================================================== =======

Update 2019: The RA status granted at the start of the calendar year 2017 and 2018 has been based on IC revenue. As from 2019 criteria again have become vague. RA is not achieved through IC spend only. Other, unknown elements are taken into account as well. (Fact: Some users with very high +25k IC spend were not renewed in 2019.)

Update December 2018: it looks like some accounts are proactively being renewed in December 2018, well ahead of the stated expiration of Jan 31, 2019. It is currently unknown what criteria were used, but previous years appeared to indicate around $10K++ in IC spend only.

As before, please Divide EQPs by 10 to get $$$ Spend

update from Executive Liaison Sept, 2023,

Looking at going back to Tokyo Strings in a month or two will they waive the service change for RA’s seems like it’s an AF without the name ?

Thank You Very Much!!

I have never had a more puzzling and nerve-wracking year than this one. I try to put a positive spin on it, as I have stayed with a number of brands, the review process has probably become much more complicated than others, but I think IHG should start work on renewing members who require complex reviews in first priority.

Well, still no news. While there is still the "review in underway" sticker in the app, I emailed ambassador services to see if they could be appealed to. It will have little effect on my actual status as (1) DIA AMB + Lounge pass = mostly RA, especially with (1) I get enough recognition at my "home hotel" that I feel it won't matter much (2) Japan hotels (where I plan a 20 days trip this year) tend to game the upgrade benefits with 314 types of rooms anyway. It's just that I might have more options for my holiday stays if I am not a upgraded. I'll keep you informed of my fate ;-)

As a first part of the promised follow-up, I got a generic response about the process still being underway and, while another flyertalker mentionned that the process was said to run until mid-January, the mail I got said:

"Our team is still in the process of upgrading/extending Royal Ambassador accounts, and we are unable to provide a time frame of when this may be completed."

That's tough being left in limbo like that, it bugged me waiting all through December it was a relief when I was renewed early January.
I really don't see why it would take this much time into the Month to figure out if an account meets the requirements, I can imagine it causes some to not book or book elsewhere depending on the destination.

I would like to check with everyone if you are using cashback sites (Mr Rebates, Top Cashback, Rakuten and etc...) or not.

A friend of mine stayed 71 nights last year (68 of which were IC) and earned 250000 EQP, but was unable to return to RA and declined to inquiries.

I have no idea what the factor is, but my friend said it could be due to using cash back sites.
What about those of you who have been successfully invited/renewed to RA this year?

I do use cashback sites in Singapore (shopback.sg) and the rates for the stay are mainly on Visa 20% discounted rates (if this is available). Hope this helps.

I don't recall seeing it either but did get the goodies. There's a lot of inbound IHG emails so I could have deleted it.

the cash back sites are just like travel agencies getting a commission, I've used cash back sites for years for all stays, and I don't believe that is the issue.

Here is a data point that could be useful.

In 2024, I booked all my IC stays directly with IHG through cashback sites, or through travel agencies (the ihg luxury and lifestyle program which gives EQNs and EQPs). I earned 220k EQPs (all from IC stays) at the beginning of December 2024, 40k of them are stays booked from travel agencies, and did not receive an invitation. Then I gave up the travel agencies and booked all my stays directly with IHG (still through cashback sites), earned another 70k EQPs in Dec, and finally received an invitation.

Folks I have a question, one I should know but don't if I'm honest. And not to start too much discussion about 2025 RA renewal but it sort of is in a way.

We know that additional spend is as key as number of nights these days. As a past 200+ nights a year guy down to maybe 50 a year and still getting renewal, it has to be more spend based as Tim concluded a couple of years back. But what precisely is 'extra spend'? Of course we know it's F&B but does it include laundry, hotel cars, hotel parking, in house movies, tours, events, etc. Common sense allows you to sort some of the wheat from the chaff but what do we know precisely? Sounds daft but parking adds a ton of cost for example .... think it's Ł60 a night at ICPL, 70 Euro a night at Amstel, etc etc.

I ask as this year I have the unusual t avel pattern to be doing about 15 IC's back to back for 2-3 nights each and with potentially a lot in 'extra' spend. Very unusual for me this ... I'm trying copy Hades with his year plan of stops But it would be very good to have a collective understanding as to what constitutes extra spend contribution and what doesn't.
