Customer Guidelines Re-booking Policies

Please see the following links for the re-booking policies with CX and MH. There is a possibility there may be more re-booking policies soon (see post 285) but there is no information as yet.

Booking unprotected positioning flights from the other side of the world is not my ideal

MH is not the only airline that can get passengers between London and Kuala Lumpur although it is the only direct option. Having spoken to a friend who is MH crew their flights between KUL and LHR usually have few if any spare seats so it's probably not surprising MH are reluctant to accommodate a goodly number of tickets from BA. BA will be talking to other airlines both within OneWorld and others. Patience is required.

And under EU261 they cannot fly you to Singapore and wash their hands of the situation under a commercial rebooking policy. But those who have rebooked to SIN have probably done so under the standard rebooking guidelines using the passenger voluntary option to shift to an airport within 300miles and have probably used their one free change combined with a voluntary change of KUL to SIN airport and probably have no recourse against BA to get them to KUL any more. But that's just an clueful guess on my part.

I doubt a phone agent would know that MH and BA didn't come to an agreement - I rather think it's a poor choice of words or just that there isn't yet an agreement. I don't see one on the travel trade portal yet.

They went back to the 'briefing document' to check as I asked them when they received it. Agent implied they had more experience than many others

Im waiting until they rebook me KUL-LHR via anywhere as long as its premium economy. My flight isnt until March next year anyway.

I presume they will figure something out by then.

I have a LHR-KUL//SIN-LHR avios booking in J for December. Theoretically, is there a limit to the date that it can be rebooked for?

This is a complex area, but as a minimum you can rebook 1 year from your initial purchase date, maybe more than that.

Appreciate the quick reply. I booked in April, so it doesn't seem like I'll be able to push it to next autumn/winter.

I think that would be a stretch. If it was deemed as a voluntary change (which it won't be if your flight is cancelled) then you can do it for a year from the original date, or 355 days from now in practical terms. Involuntary changes are within 1 year of issue date, however. If the ticket has a shorthaul connection then there are games you can play around this. When the customer guidelines eventually emerge then I would expect it to only give a 2 weeks wriggle room from the original date. If it's an Avios booking then frankly it's easier to just refund and start again.

Really appreciate this comprehensive reply. I'll wait to see what happens with the guidelines and go from there. The booking is simply LHR-KUL//SIN-LHR, so the connection workaround I assume wouldn't help here.

Hi, we had the same booking, used BA live chat to rebook QR - LHR-DOH-KUL in Q Suite. I was advised to select seats via QR site which I did but note they were chargeable despite (I) class booking. I did query with QR chat but they advised costs applicable as BA tickets; I have raised with BA via email but not expecting a result.
Note that all the middle couple seats were greyed out so just selected 2 window and QR chat changed them with no further costs (!)

Was this a revenue purchase ? As revenue seats seem to be changeable onto QR without issue

Well, I was another one who made the mistake of booking my trip to HKT on BA metal (via KUL)

I have a very deliberate strategy to avoid BA operated flights and instead booking JAL or AY - as BA has been too unreliable, too many delays and cancellations. Just too much risk flying BA metal.

I only book the minimum number of BA flights to renew my status, that is it.

Thankfully that booking was a BAH booking so I just cancelled in full and treated ourselves to J on AY.

Has anyone had any success in moving a redemption booking to LHR-SIN? (In the continuing absence of any official advice I'm seriously thinking of giving up and hitting the 'refund' button.)
