Basics about the evoucher:

Number of eVouchers needed per segment:
- Upgrade a shorthaul segment = 1 eVoucher
- Upgrade a longhaul segment (Longhaul= LH400-799)
- From Economy Class (other than K, L, T) to Business Class = 2 eVouchers
- From Economy Class K, L, T to Business Class = 3 eVouchers
- From Economy Class (other than K, L, T) to Premium Economy Class = 1 eVoucher
- From Economy Class K, L, T to Premium Economy Class = 2 eVouchers
- From Premium Economy G, E to Business Class = 1 eVoucher
- From Premium Economy N to Business Class = 2 eVouchers
- From Business Class to First Class = 2 eVouchers

Upgrade awards may be booked online with LH, OS, LX, SN, LO and Discover, or you can call to upgrade.
Alternatively, you can book at the check-in counter. Not all airlines offer immediate upgrades at the airport.
Evouchers can be used on any ticketed PNR, even if the flight operates after the date of expiry of the evoucher but only if the upgrade clears any waitlist before the expiry date.
Evouchers can be redeemed with all Star Alliance partners - depending on the destination, airline, travel class and booking class.
For a list of award regions go to https://www.miles-and-more.com/row/e...formation.html and scroll down to select Your worldwide flight destinations with Miles & More.

How long do eVouchers remain valid?
- All eVouchers are valid for 24 months.
- none of your eVouchers will expire until 31.03.2024. This also applies to eVouchers that were re-credited after the cancellation of a flight.

With an eVoucher, you travel one class higher [link to general eVoucher information]

I am not interested in BC->FC upgrade, as I am "low-cost" traveller trying to always get the best value from FF benefits. And most importantly, is there a way of checking availability of comfirmed upgrade seats before actually buying a ticket?
Using them for short-haul is incredibly bad value, I'd only recommend that if you truly had no other chance to use them before expiry.

There is no way to check upgrade inventory. The existence of award inventory is a good sign, as is plentiful cash fare inventory, but neither is a guarantee that an upgrade will clear instantly or at any time before departure.

In the era of bidding $$$ for upgrades... are voucher-holders basically last in line to have their upgrades cleared? Surely on many (especially long-haul) flights people will at least place a minimum bid in the hope that this goes through, which makes me wonder what then happens to voucher upgrade requests...

Lufthansa obviously prefers cash upgrades, either fixed price or bid, over voucher/miles upgrades.

But not everyone knows about bidding. There might be enough spare inventory for all upgrade types. Sometimes the minimum bid is too high to be attractive.

I've even had a bid rejected at T-60h, called up to waitlist a miles upgrade and had the mileage upgrade clear about 12 hours later. 🤷‍♂️

Honestly, eVouchers came as unexpected surprise from completing Status Match Challenge from SAS Gold. For me *A Gold is the most important, so I do not plan to flying with lufthansa a lot, so I would like to finde the most reliable use case where it is almost certain that upgrade would clear. I assume that short-haul upgrade outside of peak season is that case. Other option would be giving away these vouchers to someone else, but it is not possible to my current understanding. One excelent option would be upgradig existing Aegean booking, but I guess it is not possible using eVouchers there...

You can totally give them away, you just need their PNR reference and then you call in to apply the voucher to their booking.

Short haul flights always clear IME, you can sponsor any other pax, i use mine for Family. Not sure about upgrading Aegean but you can call M&M & ask.

I've been trying for more than a year to use 2 e-vouchers. They keep getting thrown back at me. It's highly likely that my currently waitlisted request will also fail, and the vouchers will expire.

Evoucher are best used for longhaul PE/Y to C upgrades. Aspirational C to F confirmed evoucher upgrades right after booking the C ticket are an unicorn today. Back in the day when nearly every widebody had 8 (or even 16) F seats upgrading to F was easy.

Yes, this is the current reality but even Y to C upgrades tend to clear much later than before..

I have a trip to PVG in mid October booked in Y (S). Tried to upgrade MUC-PVG and back and it didnt clear at booking (only booked 1 month out) even though seats available in P out and Z back. Still waitlisted, looks like about 8 C seats left on sale.

Same story here, trying to get from PE (N) to C on LAX-ZRH about 3 weeks out, quite some inventory open + cash upgrades and bids are still open...
Let's see when the waitlist spot will materialize.

Question - If I keep on bugging M&M every few days is there a way for them to push it through the waitlist? Any tips & tricks or the system will only open it up few days to few hours from departure?

Sadly no way to push the waitlist. The SEN special request queue is only available for awards. Only if you see an award available in business for the same origin and distination a call to the M&M hotline will fix the WL in a few seconds.

So far I've tried to use my vouchers multiple times to upgrade a family member from PE to C with zero success. Have been waitlisted again for the same person and route for months now and am not optimistic.

LHG seem to think Loyalty is a one way street, only down their alley

If nothing changes I won't have been able to use a single eVoucher in two years.
