Same story with LHR in general, the Heathrow Express, and my train out of Paddington to Wales, everything is a whole lot busier than it was when I was here a few weeks ago. Worse yet, passport control at LHR was absolutely brutal at 10am on Sunday morning - over 1hr to get through the E-gates vs <5 min over my last 4 trips.

I sure wish the arrivals lounge was open again though.....hopefully soon.
US Spring Break also likely an impact over this few weeks up until Easter.

I am planning to connect from United (SFO-LHR) to Vistara (LHR-DEL) in LHR.

Am I correct that I won't be be able access any *A lounge even with *A Gold status because Vistara is not *A even if it is a United partner.

Just show your SFO BP, if you're UA *G you're entitled use the UC as an arrivals lounge.

Are you sure about that? From the Star Alliance Lounge Access Policy website:

Star Alliance Gold Customers travelling in any class of travel

As a Star Alliance Gold customer travelling in any class on a Star Alliance member airline operated flight, you have access to any member airline lounge at the airport where your flight departs, if the following conditions are met:
  • You present your boarding pass of a Star Alliance member airline operated flight which departs at the same day as your visit or latest by 05:00 AM the next morning.
  • If your boarding pass does not carry the Star Alliance Gold indicator, you will need to also show your valid Star Alliance Gold card.
  • The lounge displays the Star Alliance Gold logo at the entrance.
You are entitled to bring one guest travelling on any Star Alliance flight departing from the same airport on the same day. As of May 3, 2021, the guest must be traveling on the same flight.

If you are a United MileagePlus Star Alliance Gold customer, you may only access the United Clubs within the U.S. when departing from that airport on an international Star Alliance flight, not when departing on a domestic flight with United.

And footnote3 says:

Re-entry to the airport after clearing customs is not permitted without further eligible onward travel. Access upon arrival is available to customers who have already made a domestic connection.

Had a chat on April 3 with one of the delightful UC agents about the VIP lounge. She said it is scheduled to open late-May but cautioned that's aspirational (but she said it absolutely will open as there will not be enough space in the UC once all 21 daily flights are running). She also said it was uncertain at this time whether it would offer enhanced food/beverage vs just the same offerings as the UC but serve as a quieter overflow space for GS (and guests). She seemed to imply the latter is more likely. That would be a shame and a downgrade from pre-Covid days, but it's still a nice space, and the current UC food/beverage options are pretty good indeed.

Thanks for the update. A stepped-up F&B selection would be very welcome, especially given the ongoing abysmal inflight catering!

Can a GS bring a guest into the VIP lounge if you're on the same flight but not same PNR?

I dont travel with companions much, but I seem to recall the old rule was no guests, even on the same PNR.

Pre-pandemic - in late 2019 - I was invited to bring along a family member travelling with me on the same flight, albeit different cabin/PNR.

Thanks - this is the exact scenario I'd be in actually so that's helpful, though understand they can of course change the policy when they reopen.

No guests was the old rule. I doubt they changed the rule to allow guests.

I knew the staff there well and they made an exception for me a handful of times. So its not out of the question.
