I was instantly approved with an 810 credit score and almost two dozen open cards, low single digit credit utilization. Only one new card in past 18 months, and I am (now that I’m approved) at 3/24. One more data point. I buy into the theory that they are going easy on points and miles enthusiasts to suck us in from Amex and CHase. I did have one existing card with Cap One, one of my oldest cards that I don’t use for regular spending but have a small recurring monthly payment on. I’m sure that helped.

For some animalistic reason (gotta get the approval) I want to apply for this card, so badly. I'm pretty sure with my D/I ratio, no mortgage, 839+ credit score, etc I'd possibly easily be approved.
However, to be saddled with 10k spending on 1 card for 6 months to reach the 100k points, when I have very little outgoing expenditures, seems less than prudent.
The CSR takes very good care of me and my wife, and though I know some where I'm leaving money "on the table" I accept that with being loyal to Chase (they have all of my ready cash, investments, cc's.
I do wish I could apply to this card, but it just doesn't seem like a prudent move right now.

My question is do I have to product change or drop my current Venture card in order to this the new Venture X, similar to having to drop a Sapphire Preferred in order to get the Reserve? I don't want to upgrade. I want the SUB!!

You can have both. I still have my Venture card (at $59 AF with most years waived) and was able to apply and get the new Venture X. They are both visible in Cap 1 online account and it looks like they are getting ready to ship my new card via FedEx (tracking shows delivery for tomorrow).

Applied Tuesday with instant approval $20k credit line. Answered "Sometimes" carry a balance (even though i don't) to maybe help get approval. 805 FICO
I have a QuickSilver from 8 years ago that i don't use except for one charge/ month to keep it open. it is my longest history card...
Today, in my account, it let me go to the travel page so i just started playing around.
First impressions are that it is a super clean UI and is very easy to use.
Already applied the Hertz President Circle.
HOWEVER, for a more experienced flyer, it lacks some information that may be important such as; airplane type/equipment and fare code.
This is not a huge deal to me as i will generally do my research elsewhere before i book on C1 travel, but nonetheless it would be nice to have this information.
the one thing i like about Chase' travel portal (though i don't use it often) is it gives you lots of detailed info.

I received instant (<10 seconds) approval and was given a $30K credit line. I did not complete the optional fields on the online application.
It appears that C1 pulled reports from both Experian and Trans Union. My approval document showed a slightly lower Experian FICO score than my Experian account.

I was turned down for Citi Prestige, citing too many new cards (they want cards to be seasoned a year) yet they would not state how “too many” was defined, andtoo many inquiries. I have a Citi Double Cash, no others with Citi.
We just got the Amex Bonvoy Brilliant. In the past year we got 7 cards (technically 8 but doubt one went through a credit report inquiry.)
Credit scores north of 800, never carry a balance…never a late fee however did take a few late fees in 2021. No concern on income.
Total card count apx 30, most in the Chase family. Never had a Capital One card, however have been a Capital One account holder since its acquisition of ING.
Ok taking the credit hits (and change to new card time clock) if approved. Would prefer to avoid all together if chances are higher for denial. Reading different data points that seem to contradict one another around approvals.
If these things matter, I see the long term positive banking relationship and never having had a Capital One credit product a bonus, in favor of an approval.
On the other hand, i picked up a good few cards in the last year (and an additional inquiry or two.). One card will hit its one year anniversary date tomorrow, another mid December and a third end of January 2022

What do people here think in terms of chances of approval or strategy? Yes, understand no one can predict, many elements involved.
Maybe approvals are easier now since it is such a new card? Maybe benefits and subs change (and not for the better) after the card has been out and issued to predefined number of customers?
——
Do they offer instant cards - numbers that can be used ASAP while waiting for physical card?
We are in Maldives at present - would be cool to get approved while here and use the annual travel perk straight away.
——
Do they care about VOIP phone numbers or VPN usage when applying? Both are 200.% legit.

Yes - below is asking about approval chances for Capital One Venture X

Amazingly, approved after 3 denials for Venture over last 1.5 years (tried every 6 months). No relationship with Cap1.
I applied abroad without VPN and did use a Google Voice number with no problem.
This is the card I've been waiting for to be at one-card-wallet (complemented by a few $0 AF 5X/% rotators and Amex Hilton Aspire).

I don't have much spend either but I have found that some of my bills can me paid on an annual basis. I just set aside money monthly so I know at least 3 times a year I have a bills that I can pay on a credit card to help with meeting minimum spend. Early in the year my annual HOA fees are due and that will make it much more reasonable for me to meet the spend on the venture x.

I'm in the same situation as you *almost*. I applied on Wednesday and got approved instantly for a $10,000 credit limit (min limit for visa infinite cards). I got approved for a Chase Boundless credit card exactly two months ago (Venture X will be my 3/24 card). This is my first capital one card and I don't see an option to use the card instantly, so no. I did apply while I'm abroad (used a google voice number and did not use a VPN).
Guess the main sifferemce would be the lower volume of recent cards as you are under the 5/24.
