- I note that all 10 are destined for LH itself.
- The 5 additional 359 are not due until 2027/28, so that must mean after, or as part of, the second batch of 20 (and there are still 8 more of the first batch expected from 2023)... So in other words, they won't be around for some time....
- For the 789 that (according to the press release) could be in service as early as this year (!), nothing is said about F / new C / etc... Crisis or not, it would be a fantastic opportunity for LH to finally introduce the new C and make a decision on 4xF... Though maybe the 5 already have another airline's cabin installed (which would in any case almost certainly be better than current LH C), in which case I guess they might just change the seat covers and stick LH on the bulkhead for now....
- I still wonder about the 5 x 789 from the 20 previously announced which are (presumably) not going to LH itself, as only 15 are slated for LH... Are they 763 OS replacements? Or 343 for LX? Or maybe for some Wings thing...?

A359 will be a massive increase in seats vs an A343. After the shock of upgauging a number of routes from A343 to B773 I doubt LX will get such high seater...
During the 2014 announcement of B779 and A359 purchases, LH showed this image:

Which shows a clear gap between the A330 and A359 where the LX and OS longhaul fleet with 250-300 seats needs replacements. This gap is more the home of a B789 or A339.
If you look at United's recent investor presentation is becomes clearer:

If the 5 B789 coming this winter are from Hainan with this config: https://www.hainanairlines.com/HUPor...E=GB&PAGE=BETG
Then 294 pax in a B789 that can go 9400 miles is really the upper limit of what was envisioned for the B789 (see UA matrix above). Also 26 C sounds like a rather small C, which fits the projected low C demand...

A picture of the 'Lift' team in the US standing in front of the first B789 to join LH shows a Vistara livery, so it seems the former HU ln 887 that was on its way to Vistara is now coming to LH.

I don't know what their sources are (is the website crowd-sourced?), but they generally tend to be pretty accurate.

Some new info seems to be available to EAF which suggests LH will take up to 21(?) B789s, 9 of which are white tails to be delivered in 2021 and 2022 using the semi-new Business Class.
B789s from 2023 will then get the new Business Class.
This would somewhat fit in with my theory that the 789s will be split between LH and OS as LH can replace their aging 343s and 333s in FRA with them and OS will get them to replace their remaining 767s.

My understanding from the same site is that the first 5 x 787 to be delivered this year and next were snapped up at fairly short notice. At least some were intended for Vistara or whatever and I think the intention is to operate them with seats as they are. I'm not to sure about the next 4- maybe they are quick snap-ups too....? After that, from 2023, more original LH 787 will come with a new BC. They previously announced that 15 of the first batch of 20 x 787 would go to LH, seeming to indicate that 5 would go elsewhere in LHG (but without saying that). The current LH projected total on the site is 21, so a count of 15 plus 5 snap-ups plus one from somewhere or other would kind of make sense. Since OS has been badly in need of fleet renewal for years (even though the oldest 767 have now been disposed of), they would seem to be the prime candidate for the other 5. Before Corona, LH did say they wanted 15 more 787 after the initial 20, but I don't know where that stands now.
The state of play with A350 is that 17 of the initial order of 25 have been delivered, and 8 more of those are expected with a pause now, re-starting in 2023. From 2023, a new BC and an F cabin (apparently only 4 seats) are envisaged. After that delivery of 25, 20 or 25 more were planned. Only 7 more are listed on the site, but I'm not sure if there are more in the pipeline. And in addition, four are being leased from PR- I don't know how long for.
20 x 779 were planned. 14 are listed- again, don't know if more are in the pipeline.

First rumours of the B789 routes: FRA-EWR & BOS starting February 2022, then BOM & ATL in March 2022. Route proving, training and check flights to LHR and CDG in December 2021

Is there any clarity on what business class the first 9 (PA-PI, due to be delivered this year and next) will have? The excellent EAF website says the ones after that (from 2023) will have the new BC (or at least a new BC)... So I guess it will only take another decade or so for the whole longhaul fleet to be retrofitted...

They will have the Hainan business class AFAIR. The A359/B789 deliveries starting 2023 will have the new LH Group cabin including a new C seat.
