in my experience as 75k, when i change an award, i am guessing the date is reset (my mileage activity is +x miles and than -x miles (indicating that it was redeposited and then booked as new) but again, it could be because i am 75k.

(I changed the award because i paid 12.5 already so i book something far out as a place holder so that I can change that booking again to avoid the 12.5 fee).

Yes, that is correct. You need to call AS to book it as it can't be booked online. You can use QF or BA websites to look for availability. Both sites require an account which you can sign up for free.

No availability on CX ex-HKG

I'm attempting to book from US with a stopover in HKG enroute to Japan in April 2020, but seems there a huge blackout of award availability on HKG-Japan leg during that time. Any tips for how to best approach a safety net now and hope the flight I need opens up a few weeks before departure and change to it (AS MVPG here)? I have transferable miles (MR/UR) if that makes a difference.

Some (possibly much or all) availability HKG-JP in that time frame is currently available as married segments only. You can book a married segment one-way journey from the US to Japan (through Hong Kong), then you might (or might not) be able to call in and change the US-HKG segment date to create a stopover in HKG while keeping the HKG-Japan segment. That's what I would try. Use Qantas search to identify the married segment flights US-Japan.

Its never been allowed. Agents do screw up since its done manually so YMMV.

AS supervisor says no stopover in HKG on TYO-HKG-JFK. CX rules.

Did confirm mixed cabin price of 70k for J and then F.

I have done JNB-HKG/4 days/HKG-BOS, MEL-HKG/2 months/HKG-LAX & LAX-HKG/4 days/HKG-BNE all on CX. I am not aware of any exception originating in Japan. Remember all awards terminate in HKG unless you continue on to North America and a stopover at the gateway is a feature of AS one-way awards, stopovers are even available domestically.

Seems like even the manual error is no longer possible as system catches this as 2 awards now.

Its sad the supervisor cannot even get the basics right. Stopover at partner hub is allowed on all TPAC & TATL award and has been since the beginning of time.

Right now I have HKG-LAX, 4 passengers on one PNR, using my miles, in CX Premium Economy.

I'd like to change this to BKK-MCI. There is availability on CX+AS metal both keeping my existing HKG-LAX as-is or by following an entirely new route that doesn't involve those seats.

Is there any advantage from a fee perspective in canceling my itin, paying a redeposit fee, vs changing the existing itin? I get the sense that the change fee would be $125 x 4. Would redeposit be the same, or just $125 once?
Good news: by choosing the option that left the HKG-LAX portion intact, the only fees I incurred were additional taxes of about $14 per ticket. ^

That's a better outcome than I was expecting. I now have BKK-HKG-LAX-SEA-MCI. All in one extremely long calendar day.

Now you just have to deal with the possibility that the airport will be closed or the flight will be cancelled due to unrest in HKG

Do we have any FTers who have been impacted in the past two days? Seems like odds are we would have...and frankly I'm more interested in it on this forum (AS-issued on CX metal) than anything.

My travel isn't until March.
