ATL transfer from Domestic to International Terminal

Hi,

If I put luggage on a cart can I walk from the domestic gates to the international gates?
Thanks

Im confused. Are you talking about a cart for carryons or a cart for baggage you are checking?

Yes. All gates are connected airside. No need to go through security. I assume you're taking about carry-on bags and not checked luggage.

If you're on a single ticket, your checked bags will automatically transfer. If you're on different tickets, you'll need to claim your bags at domestic baggage claim and take the shuttle bus to the international terminal. (If you're flying Delta on two different tickets, you should be able to get them to thru check your luggage at your first airport.)

I am picking up Delta bags from the domestic flight and then going to the International terminal for a BA flight.

NO.

ATL is layed out: all in a long line:

Domestic terminal : Concourse T / A / B /C / D / E / F / International terminal

It is fully connected airside.. But you have checked bags, so must exit security to the domestic terminal. At which point you can not reenter. BA does not have a desk at domestic, so you must circle around to the international terminal via a shuttle. It can not be walked.

EDIT: This is specific to the problem you have where you are departing from an airline with no domestic presence. If the flight was on DL you could check back in at domestic and walk. You could try to see if AA would check you in for BA (as AA has a domestic ticket window), but I thought this came up on another thread and somebody said unlikely.

In that case you will need to exit security, and go to north baggage claim. Grab your bags. Walk out of the north side towards MARTA, but go straight out of the terminal instead of turning right into the station. There should be signs. You'll cross a road and go left to the bus stop. Take that to the international terminal. If memory serves me correctly there's no stops between the two terminals.

Why are you doing it this way? Are you on two separate tickets?

Always worth asking if they can go ahead and check your bags through.

This. Theoretically they have an interline agreement (per EF) but in reality odds are low. Still worth asking to save yourself the hassle.

Otherwise I think you have to take the Domestic ---> International bus shuttle in which case I hope you've planned a fairly lengthy layover to account for the transit time. Not sure how exactly it operates -- ATL website only details it going from International ---> Domestic but presumably it has to go back in the other direction:

A free shuttle service is available from the international terminal. Shuttles leave at the curb outside the international terminal and drop off passengers at the west end of the domestic terminal. Passengers also can take the Plane Train from the international terminal to the domestic terminal.

I've done the outside bus before. I would take 20 minutes into account from shuttle stand to shuttle stand.

... and another 30 minutes for your bags to arrive on the carousel.
... and another 5-20 minutes (depending on time of day) to clear security in the international terminal.

Getting your bag checked through to BA would certainly be your best bet!!

It's certainly worth asking at the Delta check-in but the OP should be expect to be told 'No' on separate tickets. DL's policy is to take bags on separate tickets on select SkyTeam carriers but not generally.

From International to Domestic last week it took 40 minutes to arrive and then waited until the whole bus was full.
(sucked for me as I was the one of the first passengers off the plane)

Not sure about that, with the current construction going on you have to walk a long way to get an uber and sometime it may take a while for the uber to get to the designated pick up spot

Sounds like this is on separate tickets. Would be useful to have more information to see if there is a disaster looming.
