All of which brings me back to; if you're staying here on points and aren't a Globalist, how best to maximize your stay - any takers?

Apart from the free one-way taxi service (https://kyoto.regency.hyatt.com/en/h...tostation.html) I cannot come up with anything else you are entitled to (the rest is in the wiki). Enjoy your free stay and that's about it.

If you're not a Glob it is pretty much like staying anywhere. You can probably get a 2 pm checkout if you want it, although it is not guaranteed. I haven't checked the website but I doubt very much that the 3000 yen coupon is being offered in Nov, as it has not been during previous peak periods. If you're going to have breakfast at the hotel, you might want to look at the a la carte menu before jumping into the full buffet. The usually offer a limited buffet excluding the hot items and that is what we would select since we find the quality of the cold items to be better than the warm items with exception of the ham. If you do the full buffet you can order eggs. A lot of posters have reported excellent service from the concierges. You should check out the list of complimentary items; they have a nice bath salt.

1) any advice for getting to the hotel from KID? I land at 7p.

2) as a globalist, is there any reason to stay st the hotel other than late checkout and the free breakfast?

I wouldn't really recommend doing this in rule abiding and by the book Japan.

I would definitely not try that in Japan, especially Kyoto.

They will ask for passports at check-in, in fact, most hotels in Japan does now - I also wouldn't do it in Japan (not just Kyoto) because it's a matter of respect for rules (and they take rules quite seriously) - you wouldn't want to come across as offending them.

The Hyatt Regency is nice though, and I liked it a lot, especially it's proximity to some of the temples and galleries around the area - we stayed at a normal room earlier this year and the experience was wonderful - can check out some of my photos here:

Regency Executive King (7 Photos)

Hyatt Regency Kyoto

Wonderful Hotel - Great Rooms - Some service issues. Kyoto during snow (even lightly dusted) is AMAZING.

Check In

3 Days Prior to Check-In I was contacted by Jen regarding arrival. She arranged for Train Car Side Pickup. The agent was waiting as expected for us and helped with baggage on the short walk to the Van. This service was exceptional, complementary and was offered proactively. Upon arrival at the Hotel Jen immedately met and greeted us and was ready with pertenant documents for the two rooms booked. A quick swipe of my credit card and review of passport and we were escorted to our rooms. We were checked in and in our rooms within about 15 minutes of our a train arriving at the station. This was A+ service.

Room

The rooms were across the hall from eachother - Below are pictures of the Executive King Room. This room was large with a nice seperate tea area with a beautiful garden view. We booked King Rooms (x2) with Cash for 2 nights and points for 1 night. This was a great CC Upgrade.

Room was great - Super comfortable and the wooden tub was huge and comfortable. Toiletries were of high quality vs the standard room on the other side.

Dining

Breakfast

Served at The Grill Resturant - very good all days - Could order custom eggs at the counter. Hot Items were fresh. French Toast was great.

Happy Hour

Touzan Bar - Offered 50% off drinks from 5-7PM each day. Champange was on the menu ~1000Y per glass I was told this was "Super Happy Hour" for the New Year. Martini's (Absolute) at ~675Y seemed like a good deal. Also as a CC holder we were offered 1 Drink per person per day (I was able to get Hibiki 30 Year comped without expecting it - YMMV as this seems execptionally generious might have been a New Years gift in all honesty)

Dinner

We tried the "Seafood Buffet" special on the day of arrival (1/1) as many resturants were closed. The grilled crab was good along with the roast sirloin (more like a prime rib). Included wine / beer and highballs - Not a bad deal @ 7500Y per person. The standard menu looked better quality in my opinion.

Location

Location is great - Pretty much 10 minutes to many major sites. Easy to walk to many Shrines if the weather permits. Not much more to say on location.

Service

The only issues with this hotel appear related to the service of the concierge.

  1. Booked a Tea Service - Gave us wrong time and didnt confirm the reservation so we lost the seats even while printed hotel confirmation had incorrect time and showed as confirmed.
  2. Booked Spa Services - Spa adjusted time from 4:30 to 8:20 without informing us last minute we only found out upon arrival to Spa.
  3. Booked a Dinner outside the hotel and was provided a Map & Address of the wrong branch of resturant resulting in a missed reservation.
  4. Booked a car service and had to remind the concierge to confirm pickup time.

The service at the Resturants, Bars & Front Desk was exeptional.

Overall

Would reccomend a great value for Kyoto especially on points or cash and points. Wish the concierge was a bit better (having just come from PHT definately was several notches down on the ability to get reservations and how well reservations were documented).

I think that's definitely a suite. It's a nice complimentary upgrade if you can get it!

The concierge here used to be 1st class. I guess some of the good ones left to FS or other places.

yes not bad. Odd that they have so much wasted space in the entrance of the room. Easily could fit a powder room. Also odd that the tv doesnt swivel. Not a huge deal.

concierge was better a few years ago by a large margin. Your probably right with them moving on to ritz/fs
