Quick renewal!
Applied for renewal: Oct 4, 2016
Approved (no interview required): Nov 1, 2016
I applied six months prior to expiration since I expected a 10-12 week review period and then an interview. I was pleasantly surprised with the results. The new expiration date is a 5 years and 5 months from now

Timeline Existing Nexus Renewal & Existing GE member adding NEXUS
Sharing my timeline for (1) Nexus renewals for me and my wife and (2) adding Nexus for current Global Entry member (w/o NEXUS)
1. Nexus Renewal
- wife and I Nexus members since Aug 2011
- wife's expires in Dec '16, mine in Feb '17
- FYI: learned after talking to Toronto Nexus official, that most renewals don't require interview. Also learned that you can use Nexus after expiration if renewal application has been submitted.
Mine:

- approved (no interview required): Nov 12, 2016 (10 weeks)
Wife:
- submitted application: Sept 5, 2016
- approved (no interview required): Nov 10, 2016 (9 1/2 weeks)
2. Existing Global Entry member, adding Nexus
- submitted application: Sept 6, 2016
- conditionally approved: October 23, 2016 (7 weeks)
- interview scheduled in YYZ: Dec 28, 2016 (when traveling to Toronto during Christmas holidays. Note location now back in Terminal 1 as of Dec 18, 2016)

Renewed 11/7
Approved 12/21
No interview required
I renewed [Moderator note: Global Entry] (as part of NEXUS renewal) recently. I wasn't due to expire until May. They simply extended the expiration by 5 years as expected (to 2022) once approved.
I did get an extra year by doing my original NEXUS membership in the summer shortly after my birthday, back in 2011 (had made the mistake of GE first that time, so paid for BOTH programs originally, with GE in 2010 IIRC).

Another data point...
Renewal application submitted - Dec 18/16
Approval notification - Jan 21/17
Total time - 1 day short of 5 weeks
No interview required
Membership online shows valid until my birthday of 2022
That was easy! ^

Thank you for letting us know. Just want to clarify that your new NEXUS card is valid more than five years from now. If that is the case, I shall renew or make an interview appointment, if required, a day after my birthday/expiration date..
