Which of the elite and/or PreCheck lines do NOT make everyone (who doesn't opt out) go through the nude-o-scope rather than the metal detector in the new TSA security configuration at MSP?

You're right; I mis-wrote. I've corrected it now.

I flew out Monday AM around 9:30, and it wasn't bad at all. I had Sky, but my non status travel partner waited in the new checkpoint. Maybe 10 minutes tops for me, and about 25 for my travel buddy. It honestly looked worse than it really was. From what he said, it's the idiot passengers who can't remove a belt, car keys, water from backpacks etc that slowed them down. I think this is being blown a little out of proportion. After wasting countless hours at JFK for years, this is still not as bad as many. Peak times still suck, and they can definitely improve... but honestly it wasn't that bad

Please, can someone tell me where the nude-o-scopes are now at MSP? In particular, if I use either SkyPriority or PreCheck at the South checkpoint, are people normally sent through the metal detector?

I was at the south checkpoint today at 9:30. 20 minutes for pre-check. The non helpful people checking BP did not recognize that my phone said pre-check. Then the most help MSP airport person announces that their are only 15 people in the north line. We are forever going to have a load balancing problem. MSP admit you messed up and go back to the way it was

There are nude-o-scopes (which actually are no longer nude-o-scopes; they just pick up unusual objects on an outline) and metal detectors at both checkpoints. I'm 99% certain that primarily metal detectors are used for PreCheck at both places but the scanners are beside them for the people with artificial joints.

One improvement I noticed when I arrived at MSP late last night (after 4 hours on a snowy runway at DTW) is that the lighted signs were operating appropriately, with the North CP sign displaying NORTH CHECKPOINT CLOSED and the South showing as open.

Thanks. I don't opt out but I nevertheless like to avoid the nude-o-scopes as much as possible on the grounds that, given how often I travel, I'd rather not expose myself unnecessarily to whatever health risks are involved. This means I'll walk to another checkpoint but I don't subject myself to a grope, er I mean patdown voluntarily.

I'll probably do a volunteer shift in the next day or two and double check on this to report back with total certainty.

I had to have a patdown awhile ago when I had a broken knee in a brace and entered the PreCheck line before it had the other scanners. I definitely would go out of the way to avoid that again.

The newer scanners are called AIT - Advanced Imaging Technology.

I always opt-out if selected. I can tell you I opted out of the one in the Pre line at the South checkpoint when I was "randomly" chosen at the WTMD.

I thought I read somewhere that eventually they'll have monitors with wait times for each checkpoint. I'm trying again next Thurs - wish me luck!

Best of luck. You are going to need it. I am out again Wednesday I expect no change. It makes no sense to me to put wait times give that it takes 3-5 minutes to walk between the north and south. Just a Band-Aid on a gun shot wound.

If you have PreCheck or SkyPriority/premium cabin you seem to be good. Those lines were non-existent this afternoon again. The normal line at the north checkpoint was quite long though.

TSA to Minnesotans: Pound sand.

"TSA tells MSP fliers to get used to long lines at checkpoints."

At about 10:30 this morning, it took me about 40 minutes to get through South PreCheck.

The big displays indicated that both North and South PreCheck were open.

Despite the line checkers and a bunch of TSA employees standing around the lines, I noticed one woman being sent from PreCheck to SkyPriority while two guys who tried to enter through the employee chute were sent back to the start of the normal line.

From the article:

"For those in the general lanes, Dankers said passengers have to shoulder some of the blame for slower lines."

Yeah, that's why the wait times more than doubled when the checkpoint setup changed. Because that same day, passengers suddenly started carrying on more things.
