Motion activated AC? I've never seen that in a US Marriott property, especially a Fairfield Inn. Do you mean one of the standard box units that uses auto fan instead of constant?

Look, hotels are routinely booked to capacity, and most people do wake up in the mornings and take showers, brush their teeth, dry their hair, etc. I'm fairly certain that it wasn't an overuse of power. The fact that you had partial power in the room means it was a circuit outage.

It's a low-end hotel. Open up the window and deal with it.

Just got off the complaint line with Marriott - is this an appropriate response?

Honeywell sensor that is connected to the on the wall AC control. I've seen them at many properties in the US. And the window opened 2".

This hotel is actually nicer than a good number of full service marriott properties I've stayed at too.

I've experienced the motion sensor heat/AC control in USA Marriott family hotels. I hate those things.

Yes, they suck. No idea how the AC or Heat is supposed to stay active while you sleep. Had one in a CY in Tacoma and nearly ripped it off the wall being woken up multiple times on night because of heat.

I read here once a possible solution is to tie a helium balloon near the sensor to create motion. Now I have to travel with a balloon? Any other creative ways? Not like this is going away...

What about motion sensor activated lights is a room? Would a "perpetual motion" machine work, like the ball bearings going down a track or the balanced model of a bird bobbing for a drink? I've been thinking about either a coo coo clock or an electric train, but does anyone know whether such toys work?

No idea but I would think if a hotel is concerned (cheap) enough to install motion HVAC units, I would think the sensor would be set tight or narrowly focused in order to avoid accidental triggers.

In my one tangle with one, it clicked off constantly and had to get up to reset it. And I toss and turn a great deal.

If your motion machine approximates a person of 100 pounds or more, heated to human temperature, moving within the field of view, it might work.

I guess I move enough in my sleep not to have to worry about such things.
